February 3, 201511 yr Thanks guys .... And indeed - even if its a pitty - its important that you judge your computers potential in advance (and don't load if there is little chance of having a nice experience). The 16 GB RAM are really the hard factor ... without it, there are chances that you don't even get the scenery loaded (or at least go to swapping hell). GPU is less critical, because here you can augment by tuning rendering settings (but neither does it make sense to download UHD Mesh just to the dial everything down in rendering settings ... which then ruins the show). For everybody who is "unsure": I recommend you to try the "USA - Canyons and Mountains in Arizona / Nevada" region (yes, with the Grand Canyon) as this one turned out to be not so heavy on FPS (understandably: because you only have ultra dense mesh to render, but almost no cities, nor roads ... and even forests are rather scarce). With my GPU (GeForce GTX 780 with 6GB VRAM) I did often see -surprising - 50 FPS with almost the highest rendering settings. Thank YOU! Thank YOU! I have a max of 12 GB system memory, but with not using the Alps...can maintain around 14-29 FPS (it ranges) and using a GTX 680 2GB...looks beautiful. Wow..... Again, thank you for this.... Post Edit: Just took off from Grand Canyon State Park....just heading out over the precipice and OMG! Wow....wow... Post Edit 2: When I took off out of the above-mentioned airport (with XPX fully pegged out...), I was at 30 FPS, and when I flew over the canyon wall...dropped to around 19-20 FPS...but perfectly acceptable...considering what is below me...man...this is what you call VIRTUAL REALITY in any sim.....the Grand Canyon with spectral light off of the faces...looks absolutely real compared to the RW view!!!! Andras...again, thank you! Post Edit 3: Interesting...my FPS are recovering at 28-29 a few minutes into the canyon, proper. Very cool.... The 'view'.....and this resolution is dumbed down to get it up to the pic host and their size restriction....wow.... Just a few pic links to the fabulous Ultra Mesh v1.0 of for XPX The Grand Canyon in the early afternoon.... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RTl 2 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RTn 3 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RT1 4 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RTE 5 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RTR 6 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RTW 7 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RTY 8 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RTo 9 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RT7 10 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/RTv 11 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R06 12 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R0G 13 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R0N 14 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R0T 15 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R00 16 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R0F 17 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R0J 18 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R0S 19 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R08 20 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R0C .....so there it is...and now...onto Phoenix....and the Superstition Mountains! :Big Grin:
February 3, 201511 yr Author Man, Arizona, Colorado, Montana....all superb with the new UHD...anyone owning XPX and at least 12 GB's of system RAM, should download this... Check it out in the General XP Forum.
February 3, 201511 yr This is some of the best looking, sharpest scenery I have ever seen. It would probably OOM P3D/FSX immediately if it could even load. Man I wish A2A, Realair, ASN, etc. would develop for XPX. Ryan
February 3, 201511 yr Author This is some of the best looking, sharpest scenery I have every seen. It would probably OOM P3D/FSX immediately if it could even load. Man I wish A2A, Realair, ASN, etc. would develop for XPX. Yes, it's pretty spectacular stuff...and probably would kill off other sims. This is brought to you via a 64 bit flight sim. Again as you say...pretty spectacular to view, and fly virtually through. As far as my mind thought....this was the real deal! Ses
February 3, 201511 yr Beautiful shots of the canyon! I have to get my UHD mesh installed... Intel i-9 13900KF @ 6.0 Ghz, MSI RTX 4090 Suprim Liquid X 24GB, MSI MAG CORELIQUID C360, MSI Z790 A-PRO WIFI, MSI MPG A1000G 1000W, G.SKILL 48Gb@76000 MHz DDR5, MSI SPATIUM M480 PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 2TB, Windows 11 Pro Ghost Spectre x64 “We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the day and night to visit violence on those who would do us harm”.
February 4, 201511 yr No hate but my fsx looks just like that with ftx global and fs global mesh That may be true but in xplane it's free and not 150 dollars. Sean Green
February 4, 201511 yr Default scenery, Lake Powell ( I don't have this scenery yet) looks really good at sunset, with the sun adding additional bright redness to the rocks. The sunset really accents the whole scene. I'd like to see how this Grand Canyon looks at sunset too. Won't be able to download until the weekend.
February 4, 201511 yr Author I thought I would add a few if you didn't mind. Not at all...the more...the merrier....was hiking down The Angel Trail to Indian Springs, just two years ago.....slept in the sun, on a picnic table, and then chowed down our back-pack sandwiches. Drank a ton of Gator Aid down at the oasis, then my wife and I headed back up the trail, around 14:30, and saw the donkeys in the corral, about three hours later. The climb out was at around 80 F degrees....since we went in September for the trip. If you use EFASS, you can actually fly over the Canyon...and know where the heck you are....and what a bonus this is. You can use EFASS for all your sims. I have it plugged into XPX, P3D, and FS:MS. That may be true but in xplane it's free and not 150 dollars. ....deleted, wrong quote... No hate but my fsx looks just like that with ftx global and fs global mesh I have both, and it does not (IMPO) come close to the output that XPX and UHD v1.0 puts out. For the first time, ever...I thought it was the real deal..and not a computer simulation. That was a first. I am really curious about the Alps..now...and if I can sustain 20-29 FPS in Arizona, Montana, Colorado, etc...I think I might download it today..and give it a whirl. If I can squeeze 15-infinity FPS out of the Alps...then I will be doing some virtual vacationing in those parts this week...(large smile). Wish me luck....
February 5, 201511 yr Author If you like what you see here....I so recommend a chopper flight throughout the length of the Canyon. Follow the river....and believe..... Post Edit: Am having a blast with XPX and UHD...assuming the player-role of Tourist Chopper 1/2 hours tours into the Canyon. Here I am, just about to descend over the edge...with four paying and happy customers... THIS..is what this hobby is all about...and always was....to have fun! 1 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R8t 2 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R8Q 3 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R8M 4 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R8g 5 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R8l 6 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R8n 7 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R81 8 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R8E 9 http://fsfiles.org/flightsimshotsv2/image/R8s
February 6, 201511 yr Am having a blast with XPX and UHD...assuming the player-role of Tourist Chopper 1/2 hours tours into the Canyon. Here I am, just about to descend over the edge...with four paying and happy customers... From what I understand, tour helicopters don't descend into the canyon. (Could be wrong) In the real world of course, so I guess we are better off as virtual pilots. Jim Shield Cybersecurity Specialist

As far as i remember they restricted such flights about 20 years ago to a hight of at least 50 ft (?) above the rim. Karsten Schubert
