This Aerosoft article changed the way I dealt with my settings, specifically I now use the Scenery settings save option to create profiles dedicTed for different settings. Give it a read!

Before heading down this path. open MSCONFIG/Startup.... and see what running in the background. Usually it's a bunch of stuff you dont need on startup and can uncheck them. When ever I help someone thats the first place I look and usually find a ton or programs running in the background.

If you are using Win7 x64 then don't turn off anything - it is not required, probably won't help your issue, and will probably destabilize your machine.

Rarely do i join in these type of discussions, but REALLY.... if you want to destabilise your FSX machine, then using the 'blackviper' site is the quickest and best way to get that result.

If you need to turn off services and or processes, there are MUCH better and SAFER ways to do it.  As suggested, go see Nick’s bible on the F1 forums. Or there's a great setup guide here on Avsim. Both are great, but Nick's in much greater depth.

The product in quest is called AlacrityPC by Ken Salter.  It does do exactly what is says on the tin, but in all honesty, if your PC is correctly setup (as per Nick’s bible), then there’s very little need for it.  It CAN be of use if you have things like iTunes installed.  That can be a resource hog.

Sigh.....

you have a problem with my post? Maybe try words instead of sarcasm;-)

I don't have a problem, I just don't agree. Have you ever really looked at that site? I ever suggested that anyone blindly follow his suggestions. But it's still one of the best on the web to keep you from making a mistake.

There you go, that wasn't too hard was it now;-)  Good, I'm glad you disagree. THAT is exactly why Avsim is SUCH a great forum....  We can each have our own opinions, based upon our own experience.  MY experience of that site, and those who i've spoken with about it, is not good.

I don't believe my post was in any way derogatory, i  simply explained how dangerous it can be to tweak using 'generic' methods, which is certainly not suitable for tweaking an FSX PC. I've been involved with flight simming for more years than I care to remember, but would still not recommend that site for FS purposes.

I hope that clarifies my position for you well enough that you don't need to 'sigh' with exasperation;-)

Maybe you would sound more intelligent, if you used a few more words other than "sigh" to state your opinion.
