Active Sky Next Conflict w/FSX

Featured Replies

After running a "suggested" update from Active Sky Next my FSX program refused to run with the program attached. FSX suggested that I uninstall the ASN program or go to FSinsider for more information ( I didn't see anything related to this issue). I rebooted my computer (which sometimes cures some ills), but FSX still refused to work with ASN. Sent a ticket to Hi-Fi Technics for their take on the situation.

FSX suggested that you uninstall ASN? Really, I've never seen FSX do something like that but I do believe you just interested.

Try reinstalling ASConnect. Regardless, HiFi is the right place to go for this.

Well, I tried to copy the error message to this post, but the format was not allowed. I had never seen this error message previously either, but it is hard to miss.

For me the B5570-ASN update (from "ASNext_FSX_B5540" to "ASNext_FSX_Update_B5570") caused the usual "WXR not working anymore" problem. Installing the newest "FSUIPC4939" didn't help.

So I uninstalled my four ASN items (ASN-FSX+ASConnect and ASN-P3D+ASConnect via WIN7:  Control Panel>Programs and Features). ASN de-installation routines ask if you want to keep your personal settings, which works fine and makes using full installers quite comfortable.

Then I downloaded and installed the full installers "ASNext_FSX_B5570" and "ASNext_P3D_B5570". After that everything worked fine again.

I have the similar issue after ASN latest update. My FSX:SE crashes every time I start FSX. I noticed every time I run FSX:SE a message pops up if I want to run as_btstrp.dll. When I select YES then FSX crashes.

Did you install FSUIPC4939 at the end of it?

thanks

I don't see PMDG mentioned in this thread. It's all about FSX and ASN. Why don't you people follow Dan Downs suggestion and submit this issue to HiFi tech?

No, installing FSUIPC4939  was the first thing I did after updating from "ASNext_FSX_B5540" to "ASNext_FSX_Update_B5570" had killed my WXR functionality in the PMDG products.

But the WXR remained inop.

So I did a de-installation of ASN via WIN7 control panel followed by a full install of "ASNext_FSX_B5570".

You are right, but I have a different opinion:

ASN enables the PMDG WXR functionality. In terms of this unique selling proposition for PMDG's range of products it is IMO a "vital necessity".

I think HiFi and PMDG may be thankful for every immediate user report in their fora about irregularities (caused by e.g. updates from either side) relating their "joint venture".

DOWNSCC ultimately had the correct solution for this by uninstall/reinstall. I sent a ticket to HiFi and they suggested sending in various files, but, since I had done the unistall by then, it seemed pointless.

Also, in regards to the question as to whether or not this belongs on the PMDG site, I would say that I am in complete agreement with vr-pilot above. I bought this program to enable the weather radar on both the PMDG 737-NGX and the PMDG 777-200 that I purchased direct.

Joe, is everything okay with ASN/PMDG now?

Just as Claus (vr-pilot) suggested there is a pretty good chance of fixing issues with ASN with a complete reinstall of the program.  It's a good idea to delete the AS_Srv folder from the root FSX installation and to clear the as_srv\as_btstrp entries from your fsx.cfg, exe.xml and dll.xml just to be safe when reinstalling ASN if you had prior issues.

Glad that you got it sorted out.

Everything seems to be working fine now. I have added the Weather Guage back in gain, and it was handy flying into the Norfolk, Va area today. I am not sure what I will do if the program offers another update, but I'll worry about that later.

Thanks for checking!

Find below an AVSIM link with an actual example of what I mean by:
