P3D V2.5 Performance for Rob

I did this awhile back for a different reason, but maybe changing clipmode=normal for the VC view will help out.

After seeing this discussed, changing to "normal" helped out a lot!

Hi Marc I had no luck with that tweak - wished it was the answer but it is not

I'm using DSR x2.0 with 25% smoothing, set to 4xAA ingame and clipmode=normal in cam.cfg, with no other NI, Nvidia CP, or prepa3d.cfg settings. I really can't complain about AA at this point...could it be better, probably, but as of right now with DSR it looks pretty decent and have negligible fps hit through clouds. That by itself is a miracle.

Tried to replicate:

Thanks Marc for the time - my point is I never had to use DSR at all - now I do better but still not the same quality as it use to be with no DSR in 2.4 also A2A are very good in regards to jaggies best of all of them - I looked into what they are up to in their texturing but not seeing any difference - yet a2a aircraft do not have these ugly jaagies on them - been there dont that - I dont miss much - nice shot

Some 3rd party planes are definitely better than others, and as SteveW pointed out many times, SGSS is required for proper AA on some planes regardless. I'm done with SGSS myself, negligible improvements for massive fps loss in clouds, much harder on performance in P3D than it was in FSX dx9 or dx10.

Beating a dead horse here...but ahem...Nvidia needs to properly support P3D...period.

SolRayz,

I reckon this pic is edited, right?

nope..using HDR mods discussed lately, and sun tweak.

Could you please be more specific?

Yes NI will hit your clouds pretty hard and I have had no problems there so I wont use it - we all know about the nvidia situation but what confuses me is it was fine in 2.3 and 2.4 so this was an obvious problem - if I wasn't such a screenshot freak it wouldn't bother me - VC shimmering I just over look that

Its hard for me to know if it is better or worse since 2.3, 2.4 and now 2.5. Up until recently, I always ran SGSS, so AA was always ok. It would be hard to make a determination at this point, but I think I would side on it not being any different. All I know, is if I were to run DSR x2.0 plus 4xSGSS...its AA heaven which is perfect for screenshots.

My opinion is AA in P3D is rubbish for me in 2.4 and 2.5, consistently...

I think it would have been just a lot easier if Rich said he doesn't like P3D AA ... and to be honest it's not great, toss enough hardware at it and it does start looking better ... at 4K res MSAA + FXAA does get very close in quality to SGSS AA without the performance hit.

There is much to play in the AA equation, but without nVidia driver support it'll be an even harder battle to get DX11 AA to look better.  But I still think LM have some wiggle room ... as in figuring out how to disable AA processing for clouds without killing compatibility (as far as I understand it from Beau it can be done now, but it would cause a lot of compatibility issues) ... this alone might start making SGSS AA viable again for many (on the performance front).

Anyway, more to come out of the LM factory.

Cheers, Rob.

I'd be a very happy bunny if the LM factory would throw out some titbits of info as to what is being worked on. I think it's part of the living platform appeal, to kin of get sneak peaks into the factory floor, no matter how long it takes to reach a release version, or even if it doesn't ever at all for some reason. PMDG manage it very slickly and without much bother, I think given LM's obvious professionalism they culd pull

it off as well. Go on LM, let Rob give us a little bit of a tease please :D K

Well big thanks to Rob's website after searching threw I found a NI configuration that works - my excitement is due to tweaking my graphic AA which I never had to do before but it is what it is for now anyway - I have noticed I now have to use fps slider to remove stutters depending on what aircraft I am using - used to have slider at unlimited set it and forget it - heavy clouds are a watch out now but at least I have AA at about 95% quality now and have a starting point to clean up performance - reminds me of fsx tweaking days again - owe you Rob - here is settings I used but will not work for everyone thats for sure as I have tried tons of scenarios including DSR which didn't remove jaggies like these NI settings
