Bloom adjustments for P3D V2.5 (12945)

Featured Replies

I've avoided making any Bloom adjustments since I installed P3D V2.5 on my new main sim PC, but decided I'd try out a few changes and post my results:

Location ...\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\ShadersHLSL\PostProcess

Backup these two files before proceeding to change them.

File ... NVGBloom.hlsl

Line 13
static const float BloomMagnitude = 2.0f;
Line 15
static const float BlurSigma = 4.0f;

File ... HDR.hlsl

Line 12

static const float BloomBlurSigma = 2.4;

Make sure P3D is NOT running when you make these changes.  Also, delete your shaders folder after any file edits BEFORE you start P3D.

Shaders folder location (example):

C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2\Shaders

These are some images (warning large size 3840 x 2160) comparing the difference:

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the info.

Already since v2.3 I have 2 HDR batch files : nighttime flying / daytime flying

Before flying I choose the appropriate one and it installs the HDR + Bloom settings for that flight.

Shortly said : nighttime flying has less effect than daytime flying, like what you suggest above.

Hi Rob,

can you attach a comparison at 12 AM?

Thanks

The first shot at Split with PMDG 737 was at 12 AM.

But here is another 12 AM with RealAir TDuke 2 ... notice the gauges

Since when is there an NVGBloom.hlsl file as well? Is there a separate bloom effect now?

There are several bloom files that can be adjusted.

These adjustments are just about bloom ... they are not about making HDR less dark or making clouds more dark at night.

Cheers, Rob.

Much superior to the original.

Thanks

Tested, very good at any time of day or night.

Hi Gerard. Care to share your files? I've been trying to create two distinct HDR files, each for either day-or night time flying but with modest results.
