May 31, 201511 yr See here: https://www.precisionmanuals.com/pages/product/P3D/ngx8900.html They are suggesting 8GB+ RAM as their recommended requirements. As P3D is 32 bit, meaning it can make use of only 4GB RAM, why do they recommend 8GB+?
May 31, 201511 yr Exactly. You need room to run your "other stuff". Using ORBX NCA and the default C172 and with my "other stuff" running I'm using 6.6GB. If you have a lot of "other stuff" running even 8GB will get you an OOM. May 31, 201511 yr As P3D is 32 bit, meaning it can make use of only 4GB RAM, why do they recommend 8GB+? FSX is a 32 bit application too. Just like P3D. Absolutely no difference whatsoever. I think you are confusing RAM with VAS (virtual address space) which is limited to 4GB's for all 32 bit applications (FSX, FSX-SE, and P3D). X-Plane is 64 bit so it has almost an unlimited amount of VAS available. The general recommendation for all computer users is to have at least 8GB's of RAM (that's the modules/simms located on your motherboard). VAS is set up by Windows. It will just butcher performance as windows will have to heavily use the page swap file to swap memory pages as they are required. Matus Celko
June 1, 201511 yr Check your physical RAM usage in the native task manager and you will see it exceeding 4 GB quickly, even when running a 32bit sim: Sim, OS, and maybe some other applications all add up for total RAM usage. What happened to AVSIM

It will just butcher performance as windows will have to heavily use the page swap file to swap memory pages as they are required. That's true. I guess it just never occurred to me that anyone would intentionally limit the physical RAM and rely on the pagefile knowing that the VAS usage is 4GB (or 3GB with fix on a 32-bit OS). The ultimate stutter scenario... . June 2, 201511 yr Commercial Member How about the additional DLLs some addons use. They should take up their own slice of the internal memory, but do not take part in the VAS usage of fsx - do they? LORBY-SI
June 2, 201511 yr How about the additional DLLs some addons use. They should take up their own slice of the internal memory, but do not take part in the VAS usage of fsx - do they? Yes they do. Which is why Microsoft recommends using .exe files rather than .dll. Gerry Howard
