Sorry, I'm pedantic, FSX is not known as FS10, FSX:SE is not known as FS10:SE & Windows 10 is not known as Windows X or WinX!

WinX (Club) is actually an Italian animated Tv series & there is something called a WinX DVD Player.

 

Shall we just call things what they are, correctly? Could lead to some confusion.

 

Clean installs are very possible.... Pricings are in Post #80, for those whose operating systems do not comply for the free update, or for those that will only update after the free 12 months have elapsed.

 

Remember, this is an 3GB update to take us to Windows 10, not an upgrade, so all future 'service packs' will not be service packs, but updates.

I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing once downloaded you can burn this to DVD or write it to a USB drive and so can either clean install or save for emergencies

So, if we update in July, we will be getting the usual weekly Wednesday, or is it Tuesday  updates. So we will always be current.

MS have 3 streams of updates apparently, fast, medium and slow. And you can pick what you wish. Which to me sounds like Bleeding Edge, Leading Edge, Stable. But don't take that as is, just what I've understood from what I've read. There is also a second stream to this which is features. Now what "features" entitles I don't know. We know the first stream deffintly contains security updates. However, "features" and "updates" can be a little blury sometimes, and also I don't know what drivers would come under. I am still unclear on this one and struggling to find a definitive answer.

 

Part of the issue is the preview of W10, especially in relation to updates, is not what the final product will be. So it's a little muddled. But patch Tuesday still exists to a certain extent. MS just want faster, smaller updates and improvements. But in terms of security, note security is different from improvements, it remains the same

From what I gather & read, whatever is downloaded in July is a 3GB update, not a full install. Remember, you are updating your Windows 7/8.1 to Windows 10 ..In case of emergencies, the update is re-downloaded, as with all updated at the moment.

A full install is an upgrade, not an update.

For a full clean install, an upgrade, the Windows 10 package must be purchased & downloaded.

I checked my updates & all seemed in order for the 'reserve' icon to appear,on both my W7 & W8.1 laptops, but nothing as yet, so googling found this.. Start reading from halfway down the page from ..This section posted by Susan Bradley:

Section 2 worked on my W8.1 laptop, & Section 3 for my W7

The easiest way is to uninstall KB3035583 and run Windows Update.

I noticed my virtual machine running extremely slowly, so I decided to install the preview on my laptop and desktop on a separate partition on each.

 

 

The first thing I noticed was that Windows Updates was managing drivers automatically on my laptop:

 

 

 

 

Then, on my desktop, it did the exact same thing. Once again, there was no option to cancel or to stop the installation of these drivers.

 

 

 

 

 

As you can see, it even installed drivers for my yoke automatically! 

Just a thought...

From what I've read, once we have reserved the Windows 10 update, it will be 'drizzled' thru to us, so when the 29th July comes, we will just have to install it, as it has already been downloaded in the background. So, my 'update' setting is 'Always ask'.

I wonder if this 'drizling' of the update will only happen then during my usual checking for updates, or will it happen in the background, that is, without my checking?

It's kind of like preloading a game on Steam. It most likely will download the installation files in the background and inform you when it's time to install on July 29th.

Thought so, only when I'm manually checking and downloading updates?
