I mean...look at the settings I now have as standard There was now way that I could have maintained basically 30 FPS, with these current settings on any other version. What Laminar is doing, is exceptional tweaking of the coding. 

 

I now have HDR maxed right out. It doesn't go any more demanding...and just before I shot these dawn scenes....night life below me...streets, cities....OMG!!!!

 

We all know that fog is a GPU killer....and from taxi to current FL270...the numbers pegged at 29-30 FPS!   I am in awe....

 

All this rendering at eye-pleasing and smooth FPS, on a system produced in 2009...older tech, but still kick butt!

 

Dawn is breaking...and so is another XPlane era....wow....

Oh..you're going to LOVE the XPX.40.x performance....my last shot was pulled way back... and I still produced almost 22 FPS. This is fantastic, mate!

 

With HDR at full bore...both adjustments breaking bones....the scenes live, on my monitor...well...breathtaking! Same for all the other full bore. The only thing that I don't have full on..is the rez..but between Very High and Extreme, there is truly no great visual difference...so, as far as I am concerned, these settings are now locked down...and never will be dummied back. I have no need to...not ever. :rolleyes:

 

Back to the flight deck...but can you see my smile, even in the darkened cockpit?  No?  Oh well..lol!

 

 

 

 

These shots of an impromptu decision to head down into Las Vegas from my original flight plan overfly of it..., shows about what I get into heavy scenery...15-22 FPS at full sim settings, and that is still excellent for the graphic demands I am placing upon my system. I upgraded to the beta of Mac OS El Capitan and I've seen an increase in FPS for 10.40b5 by about 4fps. Supposedly Apple are refining the OS, but this is certainly a welcome update, even though it's beta

I've never seen an i5 clock that high but good for you!  I'd first check your log.txt file and see if there is anything in there causing a slow down - like a "bad" custom scenery file in the tile-vicinity in which you are flying.  Are your fps rates better in some parts of the world than others?  If you fnd a file with a lot of "errors" in log.txt, remove it temporarily (or fix them!) and see if that's the offending file.

There is something that I take seriously...that is the O.S. performance and what services starts up with the O.S.  I might suggest that you use the Action Center and then use the Performance Tuner (I have Windows 7 Ultimate, so I might have features that other versions of W7 does not offer...) Using the Performance Tuner, I get to see exactly what services starts up and that I can NOT have start up with the O.S., and then the last half of the program shows you the programs that will be started up. You would not believe what crap (services) was still loading up, even though I had not used the program, like Samsung's KIES for months.  Yet..it is sill active in memory, still being parsed and sniffed by the O.S. (for as long in the back-ground (while you are doing your sim-thing)) and I do believe all these latent and not-being-used services will dull your O.S. experience; will draw down your FPS on any of your sim platforms.

 

So....that is one suggestion...perhaps it's not the sim on your system per se, but a heavily burdened system with hidden, but active services and programs that are always running in the background, no matter that you are not pulling them up onto the desktop for user interaction, per se.  Hope this helps. 

 

One more thing, I have always allowed in my system budget, to get the most-featured and stroked Windows of all the series. XP, W7, and will be getting W10 Pro for free.  You get so many features and system tweaks to keep your system running at its best WITHOUT the need to do a full (ouch!) clean install...

 

In my opinion, it is totally worth the extra initial expense to go to the Ultimate or in the up and coming W10, the full PRO version.  There are benefits that are immediate, and then continuing for the life of the O.S.

Uh no, Pug...I don't have that, (Glitter Gulch)..but am looking at it over at the .org. must have been the stock XPX40b5 Las Vegas, overflying it in my dawn departure, and came down from FL270, to see what kind of FPS I would get at or near mountains and involved scenery to boot.  I started this morning, to start cranking up each section of XPX, until you see what I am now running as locked-default, and easily maintained solid 29-30 over HD mesh, around in Nevada, as well as a very nice 15-and up FPS for large airports-taxi-movement/approaches/mountains in  DSF mode. I keep smiling as I look at the screen captures showing those beautiful and well rendered mountains MILES beyond Vegas. Wow!

 

 I have not gone below a threshold of 15 FPS, but mostly hover around 18-23 FPS for most of my taxi sequences at KSAN, KSFO, KLAX,KPSP, etc. (I have spent the late morning experimenting, see what is what. Frankly, I am quite ASTOUNDED, and am very grateful for the 'code-lovin' that Laminar is doing. Pug..they are serious about their sim...and it is self evident, with each and every .bx of .40.  There was a blooper with .b4 (at least on my system..), but again, simply amazing what this sim can perform at, on a system 6 years old...with only two upgrades since then, going from a GTX285, to a GTX 680 2GB, and from a memory boost of (stock as ordred) 6 GB's of High Speed System RAM, to the max for my motherboard of; 12GB.  BTW...as you can see, 12 GB's of system memory is more than enough for all of Andras's most excellent HD and SHD mesh. My system seems to yawn at it...and THAT is a good yawn...glad to see my system so happy, LOLOLOL

I've never seen an i5 clock that high but good for you! I'd first check your log.txt file and see if there is anything in there causing a slow down - like a "bad" custom scenery file in the tile-vicinity in which you are flying. Are your fps rates better in some parts of the world than others? If you fnd a file with a lot of "errors" in log.txt, remove it temporarily (or fix them!) and see if that's the offending file.

A very detailed and scenery object intensive KLAX, at a most unreal (with the above full max sim settings in place) and yet...maintaining FPS's in the 20's...H.S.!

 

At the airport (taxi) places the most demands upon scene rendering, at the FL's...you can usually glean more. Before the XPX.40b3/b5 renditions, (at this KLAX) I'd be lucky to pop 3-7 FPS at these insane settings. Enjoy the view. Will post more as I take to the air over ortho Los Angeles...

Isn't it though?  I had NOT expected this of my system at max settings. No way...there is a part 2 to this post, of final taxi and rotation, with left hand sweeps over ortho/photo-real Los Angeles (KLAX). The lowest I went, was 13 FPS...and still animation smooth. I am just flying around now, the San Andrea's Mountains...at 30 FPS...and the rendering quality is just fantastic. I won't overload this forum with support pics...but...again...am absolutely thrilled I am getting this at what was never been able to keep, simulator rendering settings. Again..insane, lol!

Mitch, just a tip about your scenery_packs.ini. You have a few UK airports, but you have World2XPlane scenery above these airports, so most likely these airports won't work correctly and have blocked out buildings, etc.. You need to place all World2XPlane sceneries below any airports you have installed. 

 

Edit: Just a note, only 20 images are allowed per page as per the Avsim rules, and this has gone slightly over. Think of the folk with bad internet connections (i.e. Like me :( ).
