On go-around, if in LNAV, ngx drops back into HDG SEL when LVL CHG selected?

Exactly Joe! I have asked 3 pilots (Europe) and now you (USA) over the pond, in different continents and you all say its not correct behaviour. Good enough for me. How else can we find a reference? We can't because like you said its not normal and if it was, it would be in the FCOM.

Documentation doesn't always have to come in the form of the "driver's manual" (I said this earlier, actually). It could just as easily come from a video in the plane, a picture, or by proving experience with the jet. The long and short of it is, as I mentioned earlier, we can't just make changes to software based on an assertion of some random person in the forum.

Kyle, both I and someone else with "experience in the jet" have vouched for this behavior being incorrect. Ya can't find a manual reference for something the plane doesn't do, and no one is taking video during a go around.

I dont fly the B737, but Dan mentioned level D simulator rides.

This thread would seem to justify enough reasonable cause for PMDG to pursue these claims further.

And a simulator would be an accessible and convenient place to do it I think. Just my suggestion.

Alberto Ferracuti

PMDG used a Level D extensively for both NGX and 777 development.

Alright guys, you've made the point but you have not provided the key element which is credibility. Easy to do, submit a ticket to product support and start a dialog for the purpose of establishing your creds... PMDG encourages active type rated pilots to participate and even has a 'squad' of technical experts with similar creditials. The technical squad was involved during development of the NGX and 777, before beta.

Unless you can provide a reference that can be verified such as a technical bulletin, manual or whatever, you can't establish credibility in a user forum.  I have been flying for 42 years, I claim that but you can't know that I am telling the truth. For all you know I could be boosting my ego by claiming to have flight experience because it's something I always wanted to do and it makes me happy doing so.

Well my video proves in a level D LNAV doesn't kick out into HDG SEL.

I don´t doubt Spin, Stearman, and Joe Diamond have these credentials as actual type rated ATP´s. Forget me, though I have my commercial multiengine instrument tickets and a few hours in twins since 1981, I am flat out not a type rated pilot. That disqualifies me from opining on such things.

I only think that the quoted part Dan does not apply in this case. After all, my guess is that PMDG wants to polish the NGX as much as possible ? What we are discussing here is so easy to prove one way or the other, not subjective at all.

I haven't actually tried this maneuver yet, but if anyone intends to file a support ticket, you might want to note that the FCTM supplied by PMDG contains the following paragraph at the bottom of Vol1, page 5-85 in the section on missed approach and go-around procedures (page 261 of the pdf file):

The TO/GA pitch mode initially commands a go-around attitude and then transitions to speed as the rate of climb increases. Command speed automatically moves to a target airspeed for the existing flap position. The TO/GA roll mode maintains existing ground track. Above 400 feet AGL, verify that LNAV is engaged for airplanes equipped with the TO/GA to LNAV feature, or select a roll mode as appropriate.

I would read this to suggest that there exists a "TO/GA to LNAV feature" for at least some 737 variants. There is no mention of LNAV being canceled at any point after being engaged on the TO/GA procedure.

Hope this helps,

John

Guys,

I've stated this time and time again, and I'm not going to say it again: if you want to raise awareness to the issue, submit a ticket, and provide proof that you know what you're talking about - driver's manual reference, or some reference to your actual (verifiable) experience in the plane.

It's really that simple, and I don't understand the pushback I'm getting here.

The NGX is a 4 year old plane. I don't believe there are going to be anymore updates. So whatever you think it is doing wrong, it is going to continue to do it. Your tickets might help with a future aircraft.

what's the point of this comment if you do not have inside information? I read they are working on a patch released tbd and have released the weather and other update earlier this year.  A small patch is needed to fix bugs including one that freezes the fmc if you add winds to the legs page before selecting a star. The airplane may be older but it is a new airplane if you fly the steam edition or p3d. And everyone deserves to have the bugs fixed especially those that pay the big price for upgrades.  - David Lee

And I would assume you have a direct pipeline to RSR and therefore you have access to inside information.

Guys i got this email

As I previously explained, I will take a look at it and if confirmed it will be implemented in the next service pack for the aircraft. We do not currently have a timeline for any additional updates to the NGX package at this time but if any do come up it hopefully will be addressed.

So that settles it, and since there's been a little squabbling towards the end, I think it's best to put this one to rest.
