September 29, 201510 yr Can't wait to get a decent system for Xpx But that's anti-byke practice Zulfi ! Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
September 29, 201510 yr But that's anti-byke practice Zulfi ! Hmm ok i need both of them Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
September 29, 201510 yr Same cpu but I have a more powerful AMD 6650M 2GB. I use 1366x768 though, at higher resolutions, X-Plane fps are too low for my tastes. How are you cooling that laptop ? I am using a CoolerMaster cooling pad and I have opened up the top of the laptop so I just lift the keyboard and put a small powerful exhaust fan right on top of the cpu / gpu and it does a good job. I have downclocked to 1.6 Ghz too keep the temps in check. So when using Xpx @1.6ghz my temps don't go above 75 c, I need to apply new thermal paste so it will cool better. Are you able to run HD + UHD ? I had to remove them as the GPU was going bonkers with them. The other laptop Lenovo Flex 2 being a 4th gen i5 keeps temps to 70 c @2.7 Ghz but the damn GPU is only a 64 bit but with 2 GB Vram. It runs better due to the 2GB. September 29, 201510 yr Author It only uses factory cooling, gets moderately hot when using X-Plane or FSX. I don't have installed HD meshes right now, but I was able to run them when I had them. "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
September 30, 201510 yr Moderator Can you try the following ? (in the written order) I disabled Skymaxx Pro and gave this a try. I actually do like the way the default clouds look in XPX, they seemed to have improved a lot. Performance wise, it's about 2-3fps lower than Skymaxx Pro using your instructions. Another thing I did to improve performance was replace my ZL17 photoscenery with ZL16 generated by Ortho4XP. I've seen a big improvement here with stuttering and video RAM usage. The quality is a little less, but after 1000ft the difference is mostly unnoticable.
September 30, 201510 yr You should make a guide that gets pinned in the X-Plane forum. These clouds look very realistic and intrigues me to give X-Plane one more go. Brynjar Mauseth

So, here't the further steps that should give you even better clouds: 1) With "datarefeditor", set "clouds/puff_size" to a value greater than 1 (e.g. 1.2-1.6). This increases the cloud puff size, but maybe the same setting is in RealTerraHaze controls, so you can use that instead. This should decrease somewhat your fps, but you can try to gain them back by: 2) decreasing "clouds/last_res_3d" from 5 to 4 (limits max cloud distance) or 3) increasing "clouds/first_res_3d" from 2 to 3 Remember to regenerate weather after each change. October 2, 201510 yr Hi Murmur, I have been following your excellent work and have just installed Datarefeditor. In your last post you mentioned to change the "clouds/puff_size" to a value greater than 1 (e.g. 1.2-1.6)" I looked under the Art controls but don't see this line Regards Richard Richard i7-12700K | Noctua NH-D15S Black Version | MSI Pro Z690 - A | 32 GB DDR4 3600 | Gigabyte Gaming OC 4090 | 1TB WD Blue NMVe (MSFS 2020) | 500 GB WD Black Gen 4 NVMe | 4TB WD Black Conventional | Fractal Design Torrent Case | Seasonic 1000W Gold Plus PSU | Thrustmaster Boeing Yoke | Honeycomb Throttle | Airbus Side Stick | Virpil Rudder Pedals | Sony X90K 55 Inch TV |
