September 19, 201510 yr Hi, I currently own REX 4 HD. When I bought, I did not realise it didn't have it's own weather engine (my own fault for not researching properly!). I'm still confused as to whether it's actually running in FSX- I have created a theme and installed it into FSX, but under weather conditions I have no idea what to pick. Does FSX use the REX textures if I, say, choose 'building storms' or it's own default textures? Anyway, I realise I need a proper weather engine, and will probably opt for ASN as everyone seems to rave about it. I was just wondering if anyone thinks it would be worthwhile waiting on REX Weather Direct? While I'm asking questions , seeing as I'm having trouble getting Plan-G to work on my LAN using Simconnect, would ppl recommend FS Commander or just do without? I have a moving map app on my Nexus 10 and have yet to get to the stage where I feel I need a complex flight planner (guess I just answered my own question!). Would anyone disagree? Thanks in advance, Paul
September 19, 201510 yr Have you tried the SimConnect Config Tool to resolve your Plan G LAN issues? I couldn't get to work either... took 3 minutes in the SimConnect Tool, and done! Works every time now via WIFI on my network. http://simconnectconfigtool.codeplex.com/ ASN is so good why would one wait for anything else? Greg
September 19, 201510 yr FSX will use REX's textures. REX essentially "overwrites" the default ones. Oh, and I vouch for ASN. Philip LaBianca _____________________ "I think, therefore I am."
September 19, 201510 yr ASN is a known quatity, REX Weather Direct isn't. Having said that; How much of a hurry are you in? You could go with one of the free weather programs for now (I'm sure you'll get some suggestions). Wait until REX releases Weather Direct, read the user reactions then make the decision, or go with ASN now.

Greg Thanks Greg, I'll definitely give it a shot tomorrow- trying to get it to work has nearly driven me round the bend! I'll let you know how I get on. FSX will use REX's textures. REX essentially "overwrites" the default ones. Oh, and I vouch for ASN. OK, that's good to know. If I'm getting the textures already, I might wait for ASN to go on sale ( if if ever does), but I think I'm good for now. Thanks for the feedback.
September 20, 201510 yr Anyway, I realise I need a proper weather engine, and will probably opt for ASN as everyone seems to rave about it Why not try the asn trial period to see how it works on your pc I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
September 20, 201510 yr I suggest you try ASN's trial period as well, with full functionality for 7 days. I doubt you'll be disappointed. I was a REX weather engine user, but ASN is miles ahead in term of, well... everything. Weather Direct seems to be quite far from being released anyway.
September 20, 201510 yr Having a look at their new website page on Weather Direct. http://www.rexsimulations.com/weatherdirect.html Sounds very impressive. gb. I'm still confused as to whether it's actually running in FSX- I have created a theme and installed it into FSX, but under weather conditions I have no idea what to pick. Does FSX use the REX textures if I, say, choose 'building storms' or it's own default textures? Why not just go with real world weather in REX4. Enter you departure airport and let REX4 download it. This will set the weather in FSX. Do not set any weather in FSX itself. Does FSX use the REX textures if I, say, choose 'building storms' or it's own default textures? It will use the last REX textures you installed through REX. Selecting weather in FSX does not change the textures at all. YSSY. September 20, 201510 yr I was in the same boat, and wanted to wait and see what Weather Direct had to offer before getting ASN. But REX has been talking this engine up for a while now, and I eventually tried the ASN demo. Decided to go with ASN within an hour of the demo. I haven't looked back since, or had any complaints about my weather engine. Nothing but pleasant discoveries of new features and capabilities. Had I not gone with ASN, Id still be waiting to see Wx Direct. And after experiencing the gaping difference between REX-E and ASN, I have my doubts that REX could catch up to and surpass ASN anyway. September 20, 201510 yr Having a look at their new website page on Weather Direct The REX team has a tendency to dramatically overstate their products value; see Latitude and SIMAIR. The former was suppose to "revolutionize" the way we fly and the latter has been marketed for 5 years. In contrast, the HiFi team quietly goes about their business and deliver superior products that speak for themselves. This opinion does apply to REXs textures ventures, which usually deiliver! BTW, I wouldn't be one bit surprised to discover that HiFi is also working on the next evolution of their weather engines, which traditionally come every 3 years. Matt King
September 20, 201510 yr Author Ok, ASN it is...well, I'll download their demo first, just to see what all the fuss is about. Thanks for all the feedback guys. I'll try the real weather option too gboz, thanks for the suggestion!
