January 7, 20179 yr Hi and thank you everybody for this very instructive thread. Following David McClean and Rob's advice, I'd like to purchase à 30 Hz capable screen. But it seems that modern monitors won't allow such a low refresh rate, and I should buy a TV instead. Now here is my problem : I'd like to improve my resolution and go for 4k, but the smallest 4k TV screen seem to be 50'' or so. Having my PC in a small room and distance to the screen about 80 cm, I think 50'' is too big... What would you recommend : stay at full HD res or accept a screen "too big". Or do you know some trick to get 30 Hz on a 28'' 4k monitor ? Thank you very much. P3D 3.4, ASUS Maximus VIII Formula, Intel i7-6700k, Nvidia GTX 690, Wasabi Mango UHD400

January 20, 20179 yr Ooh do let me know how you get on. Ben, I have to say I am extremely happy with switching to 4K and I do like the size of this monitor. I too, think 40" would be too big for my liking. I was able to completely turn off AA in the sim and it looks fantastic. However, I am experiencing the ghosting issue while panning described in the thread linked below: http://www.avsim.com/topic/498611-blurry-when-panning/?hl=30hz Did you change any of the display settings on your monitor? Is panning on your setup smooth? BTW, I am absolutely enjoying your 777 videos! January 20, 20179 yr Well I had a few days with the UN40KU7000FXZA. First it has no problems doing 30hz. I do get a slight mouse and panning view lag but FPS maintained 30 with P3D v-synch on, triple buffer selected and unlimited set. It was not enough to drive me crazy. As others have said it's like moving through water. Just for the fun of it I tried 60hz and I was blown away how smooth panning was and how life like the sim flowed. My FPS were hovering between 40 and 80. The only downside of 60hz was my video card, GTX 1070 FTW was working harder. My temps rose to mid 70's with faster fan speeds compared to mid 50's @ 30hz and fans were quite. In all the reading no one has mention on what to set up NCP at. Do I set v-synch in global or P3D to any setting? Is there anything else I can do to smooth out 30hz. It may might just be this TV. I was also eyeing the UN40KU6300FXZA which seems to be popular. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I can't say I get ghosting when panning to be honest. Are you able to record a bit on shadowplay (install Nvidia Geforce Experience to enable it) and show me? | Ben Weston www.airline2sim.com

Are you able to record a bit on shadowplay (install Nvidia Geforce Experience to enable it) and show me? Ben - I finally found the "Game" menu (left arrow button on the monitor) and settled on "Gamer 2". Using this selection improved the experience considerably and I'm now enjoying smooth, stutter free flight at 30Hz. 4K is terrific! February 3, 20179 yr Hey Guys, I've watched this thread quite closely and thought I would have a crack on my 2560x1080 Samsung monitor and show some results I had. As you can see from my system details in my signature, I've got no slouch when it comes to a PC however I cannot get consistent 60FPS when running V-Sync (I drop down to around 50FPS in heavy weather at major high density payware airports). So I thought well, if I can get it smooth at 30FPS @ 30Hz maybe I can then bump all the detail up and have no worries. I've taken two videos of my results here, the first one is @ 30Hz and I have included a screenshot of the settings in P3D used. The second video is at my native monitor's refresh rate and how I typically fly now. Please note the FPS displayed in the bottom right corner. Video 1 - 30Hz Video 2 - 60Hz At 30Hz I notice some very slight mouse lag but nothing I would complain about, I did although really notice it wasn't as smooth as 60Hz - dumb question, but should it be? I run Display port 1.1 during 30Hz and 1.2 @ 60Hz I'm keen to hear others thoughts on if what I experienced is about right? February 3, 20179 yr I bow to greater knowledge of others on this, but I think the idea is that at 60fps/60hz things will be buttery smooth. However once below 60fps at 60hz you'll see stutters. A good rig has more chance of staying above 30fps so running at 30hz gives you 30fps/30hz which although not as fluid as 60/60, gives smooth and stutter free gameplay as the frames and refresh are in sync. | Ben Weston www.airline2sim.com
February 6, 20179 yr Hello everybody, I am surprised that nobody talks about monitor pixel reponse time, which is an important point if you want to avoid ghosting effect especially with fast moving objects (typically when panning around, TrackIR etc.). 4k TVs, as a lot of you guys seem to use, have horrible pixel response times (15 to 20 ms !). Yet your videos seem smooth !! I have a 4k monitor with 5 ms pixel response time (Wasabi Mango UHD400), but it seems (although difficult to compare with youtube captures) to have more motion blur than what you describe... Am I doing something wrong ? Is the pixel response rate not so important after all ? I might be not yet used to have such a big screen close to my eyes... I run 30 FPS easy with a GTX 1080, Intel 6700k CPU, native 30 Hz refresh rate and HDMI connection. Any idea would be welcomed ! February 6, 20179 yr If I use 30hz I lose my mouse functionality, it disappears and dings every time I press it..I have to switch off PC... Dave
