A hearty UTX Canada V2.0 buy recommendation...

Featured Replies

I purchased it a few days ago, and do very much recommend this product for supplying VECTOR data to your Canadian landscape.  Much more data than was in UTX Canada v1.0, and some nice new bridges that finally do cross over all  your Canadian road/water/canyon  road interruptions, etc.

If you have already Canada v1.0...be sure to download the 33 % savings coupon before you download the product, so you can apply it (along with your Canada v1.0 purchase order number )---(you need that during the coupon segment) and there you have it.

It works very nicely with ORBX OpenLC Canada and Alaska.  Nova Scotia looks great, of where I choose to do a lot of flying.

I have it installed in FSX-Boxed and P3D v2.4, and I read that if you also have P3D v3.0, then the Install Manager will also show that option as well. On mine, it did not, as it did not find P3D v3.0 in my Registry.

Cheers,

Does anyone know how does it compare to Orbx global vector?

I also highly recommend UTX Canada V2 (or any other UTX product for that matter). I am a long time user of their products and I have never been disappointed. Using it in FSX without any other landclass and it looks great; especially with GEX.

I found it to be a bargain even if it were only for the lighting.

Without a doubt, an awesome purchase! Giving life to the otherwise completely bland default landscape. They did a super job.

There's no doubt in my mind that UTX 2.0 provides far better vector data than FTX Global Vector currently does.  I have UTX USA 2.0 and it's fantastic and much better than FTX Global Vector.

ORBX's contractor for FTX Global Vector, Pilot's, is supposedly working on an updated version which is supposed to improve North America, but they've been saying this since, can you believe it, November 2014, so I'm wondering if they'll ever finish.  Pretty sad that it takes this long and they refuse to keep their customers updated on its status.

Sorry, but there is a problem with UTX Canada that has not been corrected in the new version, according to information I received from the developers. This is the appearance of trees and lush farmland in arctic communities far north of the tree line. I just find oak trees growing along the arctic ocean unacceptable, and although I am a great admirer of UTX in general, I will not purchase any new product that continues this egregious shortcoming.

Scenery Solutions UTX is primarily vector graphics and they've been at it since the turn of the century,,,long before Orbx even existed. The new version 2s are a gold standard as such. Much easier on the system than Vector as well.

Now, Landclass is another issue. Although it does contain some, it is not the primary focus of UTX. But it is compatible with FTX openLC which does specialize in landclass. You can layer it in to your liking. Use UTX for urban and FTX openLC for vegetation and rural for example. Plenty of help in the UTX forum.

I feel at this time it is way superior. That might change with the ORBX Vector update now in Beta. But owning them both...for myself, hand's down, better roads, better objects...new great looking bridges, power transmission corridors, etc, running UTX Canada v2.0

Without a doubt, an awesome purchase! Giving life to the otherwise completely bland default landscape. They did a super job.

+1..they sure did!

Certainly easy to understand your concerns. I'm sure it is quite frustrating. On the other hand, their response seemed very reasonable.

And in fairness, further in the thread NickN offered what seemed to be a reasonable solution:

I'm sure it is quite a challenge for developers to meet everyone's expectations. It does seem however that UTX has generally met the majority of users expectations and quite often have exceeded them.

Just to clarify about the vegetation landclass; this from the UTX Canada V2 announcement:

  • Brand new landclass using the latest available data.   This includes not only urban areas, but also vegetation landclass.   The top 100 cities in Canada (by population) have been hand-classified for extreme accuracy.

Sorry, while I appreciate the difficulties involved in correcting the arctic urban landclass problem, it remains a serious issue in my judgement. Here's why: something like 2/3 of Canada is arctic or subarctic, and rendering this vast area accurately should have high priority. Having trees and farmland in FSX in locations where in reality there are none within hundreds of miles (and which is actually covered in tundra), in my opinion is as bad as showing igloos in Naples, or icebergs floating in the Mediteranean. I am sure that in general, UTX Canada 2.0 is a fine product, but having been to the arctic I know what towns and villages up there look like, and it is assuredly not like Dubuque, Iowa. Sooner or later this issue just has to be addressed.

I sympathize with your concerns, No kidding. I am also truly sorry that someone like yourself who seems to love flying in Northern Canada would miss out on the great enhancements that UTX has offered. You are right that they didn't solve every FSX problem, but they did make some huge changes that may be worth considering. They also do listen to their customer base. Keep trying.

If for no other reason than correcting the shorelines it is well worth the investment. (I also love the addition of the lighting )I hope you can reconsider and take another look. I think you will enjoy the changes.

I also hope you will continue to provide a voice to arctic flyers looking for a bit more reality. Thanks to your comments I have been flying "Way up North" much more lately; and really enjoying it. Would love to hear more about your experiences, what you are flying and where.

Blue Skies to you Cobalt.

I think FTX OLC may have the edge here. Flying out of Yellowknife no sign of farmlands or oak trees with FTX OLC and UTC Canada v1 - some trees but just looks like the taiga I have seen at the same latitude in Alaska - maybe the Canadian arctic is different as I have never been there.

Well, I have taken the advice of several of you and purchased UT Canada 2.0, and it is indeed an amazing product. The level of detail, especially in roads, waterways, and coastlines, as well as cities and towns, is impressive and certainly makes this upgrade a good value. The trees-in-the arctic problem is also less than I expected -- just a few scattered trees at Cambridge Bay, Tuktoyaktuk, Repulse Bay and Resolute Bay, to name a few places, and almost none at Iqualit -- nice!   Churchill, Manitoba remains a problem -- it is full of large green leafy trees (not to mention a bunch of large downtown office buildings!) which would make the place unrecognizable to its inhabitants. So there is still work to be done to fix this (hopefully in UT Canada 3.0), but all in all this is a very nice product.  Many thanks to the helpful responses to my post.

  Cobalt

Very glad to hear you are enjoying UTXv2 Canada, Cobalt. Hope you will continue to inform the developers of the anomalies you find, like the Churchill area. They tend to be very responsive; providing any fixes that are practical. I saw that they are planning a release soon of their initial v2 fixes. Maybe they can include something for the Churchill landclass.
