I don't have P3D installed, but I was having exactly the same thing you're describing going on with FSX and Cities Skylines and it was driving me crazy as FSX has been completely stable on my machine for years.

I went to guru3d.com, downloaded the Display Driver Uninstaller, completely quashed the nvidia drivers and removed the corresponding registry entries as per the instructions.  I then installed the latest nvidia drivers (355.82 at the time I did this).

I haven't had a problem since.

One of the main things is to NOT install ANYTHING else - nada - zip - nothing. Make NO changes to the prepar3d.cfg file. Leave everything at defaults.

Do you get the error?

I would be looking at your GC as a primary starting point, do you have another card you could borrow to test with?

so i tried all of your suggestions and i read somewhere that GWX was causing some issues for some. I had dabbled with win 10 but it was so unstable and needs some more work before i will try again. Went back to win 7 some weeks ago but still had the GWX sat on my hard drive somewhere.
Bit the bullet this afternoon and re-installed win 7 from scratch as nothing i was doing was making any difference, and also having win 7 hang sometimes on the cursor when booting.

I am happy to say that all has gone well so far, I am currently at 35'000 ft with the default flight and 15 mins along track. many thanks for your support and suggestions but gonna put this one down to win 10 and GWX.

As a foot note, i found that the flashing cursor and hang up could be related to having joysticks and panels plugged in when i boot up. I have a 7 way USB switch hub that i have all my peripherals plugged into so as to be able to turn them off/on when i need them for P3D. I have found this to upset the boot up for some reason if they are left on.

Again, many thanks. now to start adding aircraft one by one.

What is this: F:\Prepar3D v3\Modules\SimConnectP3D2.dll

It is installed by the FSUIPC installer, along with the standard FSUIPC.dll and config files. I assume Pete Dowson could shed more light. It may well be mentioned in the documentation for the P3D version of FSUIPC - I haven't had a chance to read through the latest docs, as the FSUIPC functions I typically use work the same in P3D V3 as they have in all previous versions.
