Cuba: what a shame in FSX ;)

OpenLC North America is only the USA/Canada

I don't believe that is accurate.

The openLC North America map clearly includes Mexico and the northern Caribbean which includes Cuba, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, etc.

There was a freeware project back in 2010 that covered all of the Caribbean, Central America and South America, (Similar to the UTX series.) called AGS2010.  It was a huge (Gigabytes) download, but it was pretty good, I still use it. I just searched for it, unfortunately it appears the site was taken down, and was never posted to any other FS library.

I found it here:

Even seems to be version 2.0 as it has more folders than version 1.0 which I still have on disk.

The download seems to be okay.

I also think that the terrain folder contains just the mesh, so people running FreeMesh can skip downloading this.

The rest weighs in at around 1.4 GB or so.

If designing scenery / airports was easy , wouldn't we all be doing it ? There are however several sites on the net where advice is given on how to accomplish this very thing ( even here on AVSIM ) .

The point with " requesting " sceneries , is it still boils down to , is the information easily available and more important , how many people would be prepared to buy it and what would it cost . That AVSIM may have thousands of members , does not mean that everyone would purchase a certain scenery .

As a last resort you could always send Fidel ( or his brother ) an email and ask what his view is on the subject . To be honest though I don't think the Cuban Government cares one way or the other that their country is not " accurately " depicted in FSX ( or any other flight sim ) .

At least there is some light on the horizon thx guys. ;)

@ jdwgraf:

I don't get your point. Did I tell it was easy? I thought I only told it has been done with so many other places, or not? Are you telling me I should better not have opened this thread or what is the consequence you wish for after reading your post?

Anyways, I don't think any politician or military commander cares about FS scenery creation, except when he or she is a simmer. If we would need to rely on people who have a personal interest in that, we could as well forget about it.

I don't believe that is accurate.

1. openLC NA Alaska/Canada - due August

2. openLC NA USA - later this year

As an example, one major scenery developer actually purchases terrain data when preparing their regional scenery. You are correct that Cuba is not the only area where this causes problems.

Cuba may be the most photographed island in the Caribbean, but I doubt clandestine agencies will be sharing that data for flight simulation use.

The only time you'd like photographers on the ground is for airport development to get a good picture of all the buildings to model. For scenery you can purchase many of the available terrain data and go off maps and pictures available online. simmarket has some Cuban airport pay scenery for sale already. The free mesh product here covers Cuba. Just need a good landclass product and more detailed coastlines than FTX Vector.

Here's a quote from the head of ORBX in response to a question about openLC North America South on July 20, 2015:

"openLC NA South includes USA, Mexico, Hawaii, Cuba and the Caribbean"

That was always the intention as evidenced by the openLC North America coverage map.

I had hoped MSE would do some Latin American scenery after finishing the States and had even suggested it to them but instead they decided to redue the States thinking people are going to buy  again what they already have because it's higher resolution. Not me. I would love some photo scenery of Nicaragua as I lived there a long time ago.

They made it clear that the OpenLC North America is a group of products, with Alaska/Canada being released first, then the USA, then the rest of North America. I don't know what is so confusing about this. Only USA will be released later this year.

Thats exactly what I was thinking about UTX V2 for North America. As far as I have seen the videos, its not enough for me to pay for an update to V1, which is fine for me and I dont believe I am the only person who thinks so.

I just don't get why they do V2 of UTX USA again when there are so many ppl waiting for a better southern america. No landclass addon I have bumped into so far will remove the issue with fall and winter trees standing right next to palms in FSX. (In Summer it looks fine though....)This is true for all of southern america, outside UT-TAC, and for Cuba inside it. ;) If you are flying to sao paolo and its summer in the northern hemisphere, you will see winter trees all over the place.

Can't creators, or even users, simply deactivate seasonal changes for certain regions?

I have read the night lighting in v2 is very good, and they probably had better data to work with to upgrade USA to v2.
