Flight commander 7.5 or FSNAV??

Featured Replies

I already have FSNAV but am getting seriously annoyed by the length of time it takes to draw the MAp with AA turned on. I see Aerosoft have updated there Flight commander to 7.5. If I upgraded to this would I lose anything that FSNAV has? :? Also is this program integrated like FSNAV? And can flight plans be exported to FS2004 so that ATC makes sense of them?TIA

If much longer than that, you might see if you did the update and or reinstall.

If you look at forum there are a number of people who experience this with AA enabled. Unenabled it works fine, but FS looks crap!

It's a system-specific issue, not a problem with FSNav. As such, there is no guarantee that any other moving map process won't have the same problem. Flight Commander might work well for you but you need to be aware of the downside risk.Doug

Just FYI: My FSNav draw time is significantly higher in fullscreen mode than in windowed mode. Because of this I run FS2004 in a maximized window. Having many SIDS/STARS present in FSNav also increases the initial (so the first time startup) loading time of FSNav on my system.

HelloWhy not try the 30 day demo of Airplan Sim Edition from Razors EdgeThere is a recent review here at avsim.

I have have had FS Nav for years as well. I love it for planning. I am open to other planning software of course (have eye'd FS Build from time to time, but it seems not to be ready for FS 2004 except in a Beta last time I looked!). I really like the Bearing feature in FS Nav, so any software I switched to would have to allow this. I use this to trangulate intersections or just for Nav purpose. The first time I open it (I am in full screen) it can take a full 30 seconds, but it is almost instantaneous every time after that. I guess the main compliant I have is that I can't access it outside FS. With Active Sky, one is supposed to process the flight plan weather before loading FS so the clouds/env can be submited. This is a catch-22 if you use FS Nav. But not a big thing.

FSNav is the tool of choice for me. Why? It looks nice, is neat, does what I need. FSBuild is somehow cryptic (but good, anyway), and FS Commander's database lacks way too many SID/STARs.Andreas

Mattius,Try one of the suggestions posted here, run in windowed mode, you should find FSNav draws quicker and I don't see any difference in frame rates between windowed and full screen mode. You can also try different AA & AF settings.I looked at Flight Commander a while back and was put off by the fact that it doesn't get its AIRAC updates from Richard's site. AFAIK It updates from the DIAFF data which loses a lot of European data.

My experience is that the first time map draw for FSNav is more related to a specific video driver than it is to AA...but, maybe that's just my system. for instance, using the nvidia 80.40 beta driver I get a slower draw than I did with my previous 70xx driver. But, I like so much else about the 80.40 beta that I can put up with the slower draw of FS Nav...I just look at it as one more aspect of pre flight...:-)Sherm

Sherm - How long does it take to do the first draw? I've never seen a delay going all the way back to my old P3 500. Or, maybe I just don't understand the problem.Doug

The delay is measured in seconds. I might even call it merely sluggish. 20 seconds, maybe 30 to draw in the entire map and all of the navigation points. It's only with the red, none of the other colors are affected. But, with earlier video drivers, the red would pop up just as quickly as do the other colors...Sherm
