Isle of Man - Installation?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I luckily could order a CD-Box with Isle of Man of Earth Simulations

(They went out of business a while ago)

If you are interested too, you can order it here for only 10 UKP:

http://www.flightstore.co.uk/aviation-gifts-c221/flight-simulation-c499/microsoft-fsx-add-ons-c814/vfr-photo-x-15-isle-of-man-p4053

Anyway:

I installed it on P3D but the installer didn't update my scenery.cfg (IOM CD was version 2.4, not 2.5 which supports P3D)

Normally not an issue because I can add it myself, but this scenery has 7 main scenery folders and I don't have a clue in what order to add them to my scenery.cfg.

I have the following folders:

IOS-IOM-3D

IOS-IOM-Airports

IOS-IOM-FX

IOS-IOM-Photo

IOS-IOM-SFX

IOS-IOM-Terrain

IOS-IOM-TFX

Can someone please enlighten me?

Grazie,

Egbert

my order is

ES-IOM-SFX

ES-IOM-FX

ES-IOM-TFX

ES-IOM-Helipads

ES-EGNS-Ronaldsway

ES-X9MR-MountRule

ES-X9JU-Jurby

ES-X9AN-Andreas

ES-IOM-Photo

ES-IOM-Terrain

ES-3D

ES-SFX

this works fine for me

if you Google    "earth simulations scenery order"    there is a page with ordering information and possible autogen compatibility files that may be required.

Their installer is an absolute nightmare so I wouldn't go anywhere near P3D with these products!!

Things are only what they appear to the observer...it's not really that much of a nightmare when you strip it down.   And even if it is to some people, I rather think the quality of the scenery is worth the effort.  Advising people to not even try seems a bit pessimistic and defeatist to me :P  Cheers K

Where their is a will, their is a way.....but yes the installer is a real demon.

Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

Ahhh Kevin   ... I respect what you are saying but if it screws up a perfectly working P3D with stacks of addons installed then I am sure you'd agree that you wouldn't be that pleased!!

For myself I think I will stick with how it was originally installed on my system by ES as I have no stepped runways or other issues with the scenery, I just posted the above in response for information.

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies!

As we speak, I'm flying to EGNS from EGCW. ETA:30min

For the record, ES Isle of Man is one of the best scenery packages ever developed. Just a little thought for the day.

Back in FSX I remember a similar complex set of files with their tiny Isles of Scilly package. Amazing for a group of small islands with only 2,200 inhabitants.

It offended my sense of tidiness, so I merged them all down to single 'scenery' and 'texture' folders, and I didn't seem to cause any problems.

It's a shame that ES products do not have more conventional installers. They are superb scenery packages, and deserve to be on as many PC hard disks as possible!
