VSYNC P3D V3

Featured Replies

Thinking about getting a 30hz capable monitor or a G-sync. What is best with P3D when I am not able to keep 60fps (for Vsync with current monitor) in all situations? G-sync monitor to run unlimited within P3D and Gsync or a monitor that delivers 30hz + Vsync enabled within P3D? Or eventually wait for 1/2 refresh compatibility (if it comes) to P3D?

Or find a monitor that can do both G-sync and 30hz?

OK guys I have done some testing I have 46inch lcd tv at 60hz native refresh rate

I have changed it to 29hz which my tv only allows does not have the option of 30hz

I first noticed mouse is sluggish , anyways preceded into p3d v3.1

Wow smooth as silk for the most part

Then I was getting motion lag

Tried turning off tripple buffering but still the same

Vsync on and unlimited fps set =lag

Vsync on 60ps tripple of and on =lag

I set refresh rate back to 60hz

Jumped back into sim

Vsync on tripple buffer on unlimited fps

No lag slight stutters

I dunno

Any help is appreciated

Perhaps it's time for the 4K soon lol

Well I found out that nvidia control panel doesn't allow me to refresh rate to 30 only 29

Thou via the win 7 desktop resolution settings I did so to 30

And the same thing happened scenery was very smooth whilst take off then lag

My settings at the moment, Monitor at 30hz, unlimited, vsync +triple buffer....very smooth.

I double that. I am a Track IR user and "only" have a 60Hz monitor. As such I only get butter smooth head movements and no tearing when I set P3D's internal settings @ unlimited, vsync and triple buffer on. In Nvidia control panel or NI, I have set Vsync to "adaptive". That setting cuts off fps at 60 fps. I know that you have to maintain > 60 fps in order to get Vsync work. But I do not have a 30 Hz monitor at the moment (still waiting what VR glasses will do).

I used to fly with 30 fps locked and 1/2 vsync, but using a 60 Hz monitor and Track IR, I did get tearing and the head movements made me dizzy. Much better now with the above settings. And since P3D V3, in many situations, I can maintain 60 fps.

Regards,

Chris

OK I guess no one can help out with my lag and stutter running 30hz

Has it anything to do with input lag? Do I adjust settings via tv?

Thanks

The mouse lag is probable a limitation of the TV at 30hz.

Does it have a gaming mode?

quick update guys

so I was on another forum and got a hint from somebody to try updating my tv driver ,

so I went to the website of the tv I had punched in the serial code and downloaded that driver and installed it via usb

and viola.... smooth as silk

FML ,seriously

I was blowing my brain out trying to figure out why I was getting bad lag at 30hz refresh rate

Thanks to all for your help

so I was on another forum and got a hint from somebody to try updating my tv driver ,

Didn't need to go to another forum ... I had actually posted that info here on AVSIM some time ago when I first got my Sony 4K ... I have my Sony set to auto update and I've currently had 6 firmware updates ... one of the updates allowed for full RGB support at 60Hz (and obviously at 30Hz) ... could also verify the difference via NVCP as new options became available for me.

So yes, it's always a good idea to get one's 4K TV/monitor updated.

Cheers, Rob.

Just when I think I'm getting the hand of all of this Sim stuff, something else come along that makes my head hurt! I've read through this whole thread and I'm not sure what to set my frame lock at.

At the moment I'm running my frames at unlimited. I think this is a waste of resources right? So I'm trying to lock it to a number. I can't make any sense of the table that Rob posted. I tried to make a custom resolution on my screen of 30hz but it won't let me do it. I can only choose 60hz or 59hz. Should I be locking my frames at 37 like the chap further up this conversation?

I'm typically getting 40 fps in the NGX cockpit and 60 fps in the external view...

Can anyone help me please?

I think some confusion stems from the subject "VSYNC P3D V3", since the discussion moved toward frame locking vs unlimited. What I've been talking about is optimising vsync, by selecting a frame rate that coincides most often with the monitor refresh. Fact is that vsync and refresh go hand in hand, and for best results that involves locking. But vsync can run with any frequency even if fps never coincides with the monitor refresh. Vsync waits till the whole frame can be displayed so there is no tearing. Therefore vsync can add a tiny delay, so performance peaks with vsync are at fps frequencies that coincide most often with the monitor refresh. Even so, it's not a big deal as fps increases, time between frames decreases, generally any fps can work well when it's over 30.

With P3D 3.1 the sky/terrain interface staggers when panning at an fps below 25Hz, whereas with v2.5 20fps could run happily. 25 fps locked would work best on a 25/50/75/100 Hz monitor, but the unlimited performance would need to show frames upward of 50 at all times to handle locked 25 properly. With locked mode we have a list of pre-rendered frames that means we also have an input delay. At 25Hz and three look ahead frames that's only 0.12 seconds. Locked or unlimited runs the GPU flat out, but a locked rate that has more time between frames than the pre-rendered list takes to draw, can relax, unlimited keeps going.

I've recently been flying gliders and due to constant turning I find unlimited is bad all the time. And now with the new sky problems I'm running 25 locked on a 60Hz monitor, and so vsync is less efficient. In short, it's all going to be a compromise whatever strategy is chosen.

Can you expand on this Steve?  Sky problems?

Cheers, Rob.

I hope you can work it out Steve.

Like I wrote before Unlimited gives me way better fps than a locked one.
