Is it just me, or is the goal shown in the Donation Statistics window a moving target?

 

It seems like a few weeks ago, the donations amounted to almost half of the target.  Then, I logged in a few day ago and, all of a sudden, the donations had been reset.

Given that we had a similar thread last month I feel that the donation statistics shown on the website are somewhat misleading and confusing as rather than saying "Monthly" they are titled "Total".

 

Ideally it would be nice to see a running annual total as well as the monthly total. Whilst I appreciate that there is a finite amount of space available I still think the labelling could be improved.

We are not trying to deceive or hide anything.  Our overall goal is to collect $3000 each month.

Thanks for the link Jim.  I hope that comment about "trying to deceive or hide anything" doesn't refer to my post as that was not my intent at all. I was merely commenting how using the word 'Total' rather than 'Monthly' can cause confusion when the values reset each month.

 

To further dispel confusion I should point out that people need to press the 'Donate' button at the top of the page to see the 'View All Goals' link rather than the 'donate' button in the sidebar.

Thank you everyone for your support and constructive feedback.  We are fully transparent with donations, and have a yearly goal of $36,000 or a monthly goal of $3,000.  The bandwidth and IT expenses are very real, and these funds go towards keeping the lights on here at AVSIM as well as any future expenses.  Nobody at AVSIM draws a salary or compensation for the services we provide the community, therefore, all donations go back to the community.  

 

I thought breaking donations up into a monthly goal would be more representative since the bar shows the monthly progress towards that specific goal.  However, I'm not sure how to show two progresses (monthly and yearly), so I will just keep it current with Jan through Present.

Sorry if I left the impression that I thought there was some kind of deception going on. 

 

I simply saw the goal resetting, not realizing that it was a moving monthly goal.

Well, to me it's more confusing than ever

The "total goal" is now 12.000 where I would expect 3.000*12=36.000.

 

In general I think that the sidebar could contain more info about donations / costs. Just two more sentences with a link to more detailed information/statistics.

I myself wasn't aware of what was needed for what until recently a member started a topic on donations. And I'm on AVSIM almost every day for 4+ years now...

Not saying it's your fault and not voting for agressive promotion, but right now it's VERY subtle.
