Sky textures that work in 3.2.3?

Featured Replies

Hi all-

Any suggestions for this without buying REX or something similar? This is a fresh install and I tried the HDV2 textures from the library but I get a black sky.

Thanks,

Mark

Well with REX sales on til tomorrow (60% off everything)

REX 4 - Texture Direct (with Soft Clouds)

is $17.98  instead of its' regular price of $44.95

These are the best.

You need the HDEv2 converted sky colors for FSX (they also work in P3D):

I'm currently using Natural Day from REX Essential but previously I was using HDE v2 sky colors. I'm still using the HDE v2 clouds because they honestly look great to me:

Everyone's opinion is different though - depending on where you live, you're probably used to seeing certain types of clouds and sky colors, so something that looks realistic to you might look unrealistic to me and vice versa. Personally I'm no fan of the REX4 sky textures at all. I've tried almost the entire set, and they all look oddly undefined and the haze looks unnatural.

Don't waste money on REX (even with the discount, still money) for the sky textures only, HDE is superior IMO.

Thanks guys. I think I have enough to run with.

Cheers,

Mark

Great to see alternatives.  I've been using REX sky textures ever since they were first released.  It'll be good to change them up.

Navids posted above are pretty darn good...

Scott

Yes those are great with some REX soft clouds

Yes, REX 4 leaves a lot to be desired in p3d. The water shade is not configurable, the water textures themselves are not as good as he default, the wet runway bump map is an awful shimmering mess and the sky textures aren't good either. I'm only using clouds, sun and airport surface textures at the moment.
