Hey, thanks, will check out AYPY for sure! Loved your PIREPS btw, didn't even know that site existed.

Its a small personal site that I set up sometime ago for the fun of it. You're welcome to come back to read and post  !

It is not a question of texture coloring only. An OrbX region encompasses a mesh, redrawn coastlines and networks and landclass calls to a set of textures. The airports within these regions are design

Do I have to also purchase FTX Global Base for this to work

Unfortunately you do.

Looks nothing like some images I saw in the afore-mentioned PIREPS, which made me go for it.

I am glad my PIREP helped you decide.

Technically, you do not have to get Global Base. TAP will work without it.  But it would look better as it would integrate better into the default scenery around which would be then textured with Global.

Your issue is a mesh issue and the free PNG Holgermesh available at OrbX should solve it.

Yes, it was your PIREP images of Tapi and other places that inspired me to make the buy. I got three PI airports.

I downloaded that PNG Holgermesh and this is what I now get compared to previous. Can you kindly evaluate it? And if you still reckon I need Global Base, then before the sale ends, I'll get it.

I fixed the problem.

Hi! Ahmet,

I have same issue. Could you show me how you fixed this?

Thanks,

Hi Rick

It looks fine to me, this is what I also see, mesh wise.

Concerning Global, I am glad to have it. It fits well my type of flying or, should I say, my flying grounds. Besides OrbX "fat" regions for which you don't need Global, I fly a lot in OpenLC Europe, in Japan and in PNG. I am sure it will also be a definitive plus in the forthcoming OpenLC USA/Mexico. Global textures are there definitely better than the default. But I have Vector and some landclass maps (Haruo's for Japan, SceneryTech Indo-Pacific for PNG) which also help a lot to make the landscape below me convincing.

Hi Dominique

I was hoping that I'd get a response from you before the sale ends. So, to clarify matter, what in effect you are suggesting is that I absolutely, do not really need Global Base for Tapi to look okay,  but if I did get it, it would help? I have enough European sceneries, and after having seen your PIREPS, definitely want to fly in a GA around the PNG airports with my A2A a/c.

I have Orbx's EU: England and am wondering whether to get some other UK airports such as Southampton, or is it already included in EU:England? Not sure.

Any links to that Haruo's for Japan and the SceneryTech? Thanks for your inputs.

The sale is on till 1st of June, Sidney time  !

PNG : Global will help aesthetically. You won't have any issue without it, nothing broken like you had without the mesh. But with it, your PNG would look better. It is about the color palette. The two developpers designed their textures for Jacksons and Tapini to blend within Global textures.

Then, the Global textures set is generally, everywhere, much better than the default. For instance, I find the degraded tropical forest textures (very useful in PNG  ! ) more realistic in Global than in default. Also remember that you need Global if you want to have Vector (coastlines, rivers etc.) and Vector is a big plus for PNG, IMO.

I've put up eigth threads in my PIREP forum on PNG. Go there and compare what you see in your sim and my pics (in P3Dv3).

I've have the whole cake with all the layers there : Global+Vector+the two OrbX sceneries (Jacksons and Tapini)+ Scenery Tech LC (an old and cheap product)+ Holgermesh and I love my PNG which looks quite convincing.  I've been flying a lot there since FS9 and I can tell.

Scenery Tech Indo Pacific LC can be found at the usual places, FSS (where I bought it, no VAT!), Simmarket etc.

OrbX England : I don't have it. Only Wales. I suppose that most of the airports are enhanced like they are in Wales or in the US fat regions but that if you want a highly detailed airport you need to buy the specific OrbX addons for England. They have quite a few.

Japan : go to my site http://strips.proboards.com/thread/6/decent-landclass-japan and post there if you have a problem.

Hi Dominique

That was not only a detailed answer, but ever so helpful. Thanks.

Global Base it is then later tonight.

Just made my first flight from Tapini. Boy, it is challenging scenery. Any minute one can plough into the those steep-sided mountains.

Was only able to fly out of it in a MilViz C-310R. Made a pleasant flight to KKU. First try was in a Carenado CS377 and I could barely clear the climb and for no reason lost power.

Hi Dominique

Thanks to your heads-up, pointing towards Tapini, just landed there. What great fun it was.Trying to pick it from the surrounding mountains was a challenge in itself, but I got down as seen from images. Going to really enjoy this airport and others in the PNG area.

From Tapini, flying straight requires a steady climb to clear the mountain, flying to the right after a hard turn at the end of the runway leaves a little more room.

Don't forget to lean the mixture if you lose power during the climb, specially if you run real weather, the indicated altitude on your dashboard is significantly less that the density altitude in this hot climate.

Hi Dominique

Once more, thanks for those tips. I went left instead of right. And yes, I learned that trick of leaning the mixture. Discovered that trick on JF's DC-6B.

Just about to install Pago Pago Int'l. I want to try and replicate some your routes as highlighted in your PIREP.

Regards.

Love Pago . These days I've doing a lot of very short flights between Z08 and FAQ with the A2A P-51... That ain't easy either
