February 11, 20179 yr I've got 30 fps and up, every beta. In the air around 45-55 fps with a i7700k and GTX 1070. No problemo!
February 11, 20179 yr Trying the Demo, with each Beta release hoping the FPS drop out issue will be addressed, there have been 10 updates so far, still frames will start at 20 + on rwy at KSEA, then drop to 5 or less, have to restart to get back to 20 +, then the same drop to 5 again, trying to give XP11 every chance, but these guys seem like the gang that can't shoot straight, so yeah to quote ..."When will the performance improvements start" ? What you're describing isn't a question of performance improvements. I've seen steady improvements for the whole beta cycle, and can get consistent 40+ fps with no stutters. This latest beta is working fine here. So there are other things going on here than just Laminar needing to continue improving performance. Some possibilities: 1) If you're using an Nvidia card, have you turned off Threaded Optimization in Nvidia control panel? See the forum sticky about it; this is important. 2) Are you using graphics settings in X-Plane that are too high for your hardware? This can include very high monitor resolutions. Something is definitely off, if you can't get better than 20 fps as your best frame rate. What are your computer specs, graphics card, and monitor resolution? 3) If none of the above are a problem, then you're experiencing a bug that isn't hitting everyone. February 12, 20179 yr It used to be an issue in XP10 as well. You can also see some other lights too far through the fog (like apron illumination lights, etc.). The only lights that get attenuated properly are the runway and taxiway lights. This is not an easy fix according to Ben Supnik, and it would not surprise me if this remains unchanged through the XP11 run - at least until the whole graphics engine is ported to a new system like Vulcan, which would require a bigger rewrite anyway. Jan PS: Laminar works bugs also according to user complaints. The more recent and numerous the complaint, the faster it gets fixed. This issue is known for years, and most in the community have grown accustomed to it -> not a recent report, not many reports on this -> backburner. People shy away from filing official bug reports, and you would be surprised how few actual reports pop up at Laminar for things that are discussed and complained about ad nauseum in the forums... I am not sure about lights in the fog. What I am talking about is being able to see autogen lights while flying above the clouds. It wasn't a issue in XPX-10. The number of cloud puffs would effect the density of the clouds, which effected the lights being visible underneath a cloud layer. February 12, 20179 yr One "complaint" that I have is that the sliders are way too general, compared to XP10. In XP10, you could choose from a wide range of settings that were broken out to help with removing one thing from rendering or controlling the amounts of other things to load. If there is a wish I would like fulfilled it's that they expand, or break out a lot more to set. Don't expect it to happen. See the following blog post: http://developer.x-plane.com/2017/01/where-have-all-my-settings-gone/ The short version is that it was way too easy to "break" X-Plane 10 unless you had a detailed understanding of the underlying rendering system, which let's face it, most users don't, so they simplified the settings in X-Plane 11 so that there are no "wrong" settings. If you want that fine-grained control then you can still access it through configuration files, but the in-game settings won't be getting any more complex.
