Redundancy ORBX & FSGlobal in Prepar3d v4

Featured Replies

LM/P3D made a deal with ORBX. (see John Venema in jan2017)

Question.. Is it necessary to install FSGlobal into Version 4 included ORBX 64bits or is it completely redundant/overflowing ?

So far as I know, Orbx has no deal with Lockheed Martin. The default scenery textures in P3D V4 are the same as V3 and V2 and V1 and FSX. You would need to install FTX Global if you want to upgrade P3D base scenery.

The "deal", I believe, is between Orbx and Dovetail Games (DTG),  makers of the new 64-bit FSX-derived simulation called FSW that is available on Steam. DTG is not related to LM - different companies entirely.

FSW does indeed come with  Orbx Global  textures.

The default scenery is not from Orbx. There may have been a deal discussed, but it did not happen for this iteration of P3D.

What does FS Global have to do with ORBX...?

I'm sure he's referring to FTX Global.

Could be, I'm having difficulties comprehending the sentence...

would be the case then like already answered, that he's also confusing P3D with FSW.

I mean FSGlobal2010 or successor. Ideal for Mesh-layers. It enhanced the ORBX in FSXSteam a lot. So therefor the question what the role of this Mesh-programm does or doesn't  is.

Theo - if you want accurate mesh (especially outside NA) then by all means install the 3rd party mesh (whatever works with P3DV4).  It's only redundant for ORBX regional scenery which has its own mesh layer (I believe).

So if I have OpenLC for Europe and North America then FS Global will enhance things, but as I also have EU England region it won't make any difference to the mesh until I cross the border into Wales or Scotland.

Did I understand that correctly ?

When I disable ORBX I get significantly better performance. For me somehow ORBX in combination with some payware scenery aiports (like FSDT) is causing lag stutters. I am still looking into the issue. It is highly annoying to experience this as I like ORBX very much.

Any 3rd party mesh will enhance everything except ORBX England coverage area which have own mesh included. But not sure about mesh resolution in ORBX England region, maybe some very precise 3rd party mesh will enhance ORBX mesh included with region as it will use better resolution than ORBX did.

Of course it will performs better, it is no surprise, with ORBX enabled you want more from your sim, so more perfromance is logical need.

And with other vendors scenery... Try to find information if they are compatible with ORBX or if any manual solution is needed. For example there is some compatibility issues with SoCal region and some 3rd party airports.

Don't mix landclass and mesh: these are two completely different things!
