747 crashing FSX

Featured Replies

it happens  with other  aircraft  as  well  its  not  specific  to the 747

In my case it happened only with the 747 (did a perfect flight with the NGX earlyier that day). But I updated to WIN10 - KB4040724 and after a second reboot of the PC the 747 worked! Also with an livery installed via the Operations Center. I did not trie to fly (have to read first) but I already have setup my ChasePlane views.

For me the aircraft works only if I load it straight from FSX menu, by selecting an aircraft and clicking Fly Now or loading a saved 747 flight directly. But it crashes FSX if I select 747 when flying another aircraft, even default C172, so loading 747 by going through the upper menu "Aircraft->select Aircraft", or "Flights->Load..." will crash the sim.

Uninstalling KB4038788 or KB4040724 (which supersedes the previous update) fixes the issue.

So far I observed it only in the PMDG 777, 747 and FSlabs A320. All other aircraft I own, including PMDG 737 seem to be unaffected.

I thought it is solved for me (see a few posts above) but now it crashes again... nothing changed since the last time where it worked. Seems my new bird stays hangared for now.

guys I believe for now the ONLY solution is to remove KB4038788. Ive been flying 747 for the last 10 days or so this way and it worked every single time. I dont care if windows stays behind on its updates, as long as my plane works. But sure this has to be definetly fixed in some manner

Do you have a source for infos on how to do this? Thanks!

Well, as mentioned in an earlier post, I have had serious problems with FSX and QOTSII crashing, especially after positioning the Queen at an airport, booting up ActiveSky, and then booting FS-Inn/Co-pilot via the addon menu. Essentially, FSX would crash as soon as I energized FS-Inn.  This problem only seemed to arise when I chose a version 3 of PMDG's QOTS or the PMDG B-777.

FSX and FS-Inn worked fine when selecting the older, version 2 PMDG 747 or the MD-11.  Only when selecting the newer QOTSII or the B-777, have I experience FSX crashes to desktop.

(Houston - We May Have a Solution (at least for FS-Inn users):  Now, as of this moment, I have had great success, and am been able to fly both of the PMDG QOTSII and B777 if I boot-up FWinn.exe and FSFDTCP.exe (the radios) OUTSIDE of FSX (before actually booting FSX up). Simply booting these programs up, before activating FSX, seems to allow use of the PMDG B777 and QOTSII.  I have the latest FSUIPC version loaded (4.971) and latest version of all PMDG aircraft, as reported my the PMDG Operations Center.

Maybe my solution will help some of you who seem unable to "fly" your newer PMDG aircraft in FSX.  If you don't use FS-Inn, maybe booting your VATSIM client prior to loading FSX will help you also.  I just tried to think "outside the box" when trying to solve this problem - and finally came up with a workaround solution that seems to help me, and may help a few other sim-enthusiasts.

PM me and I will walk you though what I do.  Maybe it will help, however, as I use FS-Inn, it may not be helpful to publish my work around here. - Regards, Eric Faber

Thank you guys! In the meantime I was able to uninstall the update. And I activated the "pause update for 35 days" function. Maybe there is an working version till then. For now my 747 is running awesome!

Hey guys,

as problems are apparently ongoing, here a quick summary what I was able to get:

I also had the problem with the first update (2017-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4038788)) and the 747, later as well with the 777. Thanks for finding it cause the problem. As I did not have the option to pause the update, I downloaded wushowhide.diagcab to prevent installing that update (see this Microsoft Page for more information: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3073930/how-to-temporarily-prevent-a-driver-update-from-reinstalling-in-window

Just instead of uninstalling a driver, I uninstalled the update as described above and then hide this update with wushowhide.

As you mentioned problems with another update in this thread (KB4038788), I just checked - it is installed on my system but I have no problems with any of my PMDG aircraft, other liveries installed.

So maybe that could be a solution for anyone else as well, those aircraft are just too much fun to fly with that I would want to stop it.

BTW: Whether it is a Microsoft or a PMDG problem, in my opinion PMDG should have a look in this issue. They are still selling it claiming it to work with WIN 10, thus if I bought it now, I expect it should work with WIN 10 as is, not fiddled around.

Hi All,

So I'm having similar issues, I had my tech support team look for that KB article 4038788 it's not even on my system. The following has been done, rebuilt FSX config file, uninstalled and reinstalled 747QOTSll. Basically done everything suggested in this thread, I have an Intel I7 processor so the other KB is only for AMD processors. One thing I've noticed is after uninstalling and reinstalling the aircraft it works once and that's it !! Even after installing MS W10 build 1709. Below is the app crash data.
