ORBX Scenery problem P3Dv4

Recommended Posts

Hello to you all,

I have a problem which (as usual) is driving me crazy.

I downloaded my ORBX sceneries (Australian airports) into a download folder. I have since found out that this is very very incorrect but I did so as a result of perceived lack of install instructions.

Having detected MY error  wioth a lot of help from AVSIM, I tried to redownload these airports.

I get into my account ... click on YBBN ... click on download with FTX Central and NOTHING happens. After several attempts (including logging out and re logging in and trying the same with different airports) I went into support and read the item there about the manual download. So I downloaded manually. then  went looking for the install manual download with FTX.  I cannot find that in any way, shape or form in my account/Oceania, or indeed, in any of those sub folders.

I have spent hours trying to sort this out and just keep going round and round and round.

By the way the manual download is incredibly quicker , It took me 2 days to download the Base pack and that download never exceeded 220kps and spent most of its download time at less that 100kps and got down to 6kps at one stage. Using IDM, I downloaded it at 1.500kps which is normal given my 10mb Internet speed.

I have exactly the same problem using CDN High(head)winds for the XPlane 11 downloads. Incredibly slow.

However that is another story and I want this one solved first. Can anyone tell me where this is going wrong.

Cheers

Hello again,

I shall clarify what has been said above.

After I go into my account I double click on YBBN (more info) This takes me into a screen which allows me to click on download with FTX Central. When I click on that I get into the FTX Central system in the Global page. (I am already logged in) I then click on Oceania and I have showing in there my AU Australia, and some freeware airports which are all shown as installed. There is no sign of the new YBBN (uninstalled or otherwise) The same applies to ALL my Airports (YBCS, YMML YBBN, YMEL or YSCB) In essence, I guess what l am looking for is how to get YBBN and the others into the Oceania folder in order to install.

Hope that makes the mud a little more translucent

Cheers

Tony

Orbx is not updating any of the airports for P3dv4 until they get a couple of bugs corrected in Object Flow.  The last time I checked the airports are about to be released with the updated Object Flow.

blaustern,

I was aware of that.

However I have had many people say that these airports work without modification now. As I have no other addons and reinstallation of P3Dv4 is a minor process if ORBX creates havok. Simply said, this is an experiment.

Just for further information I have successfully loaded all the freeware OZ airports, my AU Australia and the Global base packand had no problems.

Au Australia and ORBX Base Global are P3Dv4 certified.

What I am after is trhe process to download and install.  I tried to install a YBCG (Ants AussieX programme) and it asks to be put into the ADD ON scenery folder, which does not exist either,  Does this folder have to be created?

I apologise to you all for all these silly questions, but this far more complex than my beloved FS2004 which does have an ADD ON folder pre-existing.

Looking forward to further responses with gratitude

Cheers

\Tony

Mark,

Thank you

Based on your advice, I have just done that.

May I ask what I have achieved by doing so, how does that help me download via FTX Central and what do I do now???

Cheers

Tony

Hi Tony,

When I opted into fastlane my FTX Central updated itself. Then my airports all appeared in Oceana and I selected download and they did. That was it.

If that has not happened you may need specialist advice from Nick et al on the Orbx forum.

Cheers,

Mark

If you have opted in to fastlane and re run FTX Cental, it should say a new version is avaialble and you let it download. Then, it should be version 3.2.8 (I think that is the latest, I am not at home to check).

You should then be able to install your airports.

Mark

I did a complete reinstall of P3d V4 a few days ago. Through FTX Central I had downloaded every FTX region as well as Vector, Global textures, the NA and Europe LC and also about 60% of their airports within 3 hours. Download speeds were certainly not an issue on their end.

Tony, I am home now and firing up the flight sim PC, the version you want showing is 3.2.2.8 and go into settings and see if you have "use multiple threads for downloads beta" ticked.

I find (at least on this PC) that it works well in downloading in quick time.

When I did a full clean reinstall Windows, install P3D v4, then my FTX products, I had them all installed in less than 3 hours and that was 106GB of data.

Cheers,

Mark

I find the most efficient way to download is to click on the product in FTX Central, pick Installation Options, and go for Download and install now, then create a backup for later. Prior to doing this you should have created a folder on an external drive or backup device ie, F:\Orbx installations\Airports\Brisbane or something similar. It will prompt you to point to that folder, download the product then save a load of zip folders in the folder. Next time you need to re-install for whatever reason, click I already have a backup in the Installation Options, point to the folder where the zip files are stored and it will re-install from there rather than downloading again.

Hello all,

Final update with extreme gratitude for all the help.

After opting in to Dashlane All was restored. I was able to download all the airports and just finished testing YBBN and YBCS.

A couple of things to note.

1. Both airports tested featured great looking and recognisable buildings.  Really good.  Runways and taxiways however leave a lot to be desired and I am hoping that P3Dv4 update will sort those out.  At the moment they are very grey and washed out. The yellow lines on taxiways are white and the white lines on the runway are barely visible. Manageable in the interim though.

2. FPS on the ground in YBBN got down to about 9 FPS and stuttery as you would imagine. That however, was using three screens. The same three screens produced 20 and above FPS in YBCS. No real surprises in the frame rates and using only one screen I am above 40 and even using my ancient CPU I think that is acceptable.  At this stage I am only using GSX and the ORBX addons so I would expect further degradation as I start downloading some Aircraft and WX add ons. I do wish though, that someone could come up with an economical way to use my six screens as well as they work in FS2004.

3. After opting in to Dashlane I got a huge surprise in that the download speed went up to what I would call above normal speed ... I do not know how that happened but it sure did.

So Guys and Girls, I think we can put this to bed as "sorted" and again, I cannot thank your inputs enough.

Regards

Tony
