FBW A380 is out!
Yes, I just did a QF1 from YSSY-WSSS after spending most of the day working out throttle profiles etc (and I only did the first hour just to experience the new aircraft in the sim) and I was at cruising altitude before KADOM after a 16R departure where IRL I would be at about FL130! Apart from that I have to say I have paid over $100 in the past for an aircraft in the sim that never got this good after 23 updates. Well done team.

How can I buy a PMDG for FSX?
You can still buy the iFly 737 which in a number of ways was better than the PMDG 737 for FSX. http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?vid=flt1sf&pid=ifly37x

iniBuilds Heathrow V3.0 Update
A bit like Jazz above, I bought it as an experiment as well, as I had decided as part of moving from P3Dv5 (which I still have) to not buy airports that were provided as enhanced by the MSFS package. I would get about 51 FPS at the Asobo EGLL in the Fenix, and I get exactly the same at the iniBuilds EGLL (with Asobo uninstalled). Interestingly it makes zero difference if I select the SD textures and move every slider to off! 51 FPS… and I have verified that the configurator is disabling the appropriate files. Having said that, it is a smooth experience as I have a proper Nvidia G-Sync monitor. I am on W11, MSI Z590 Pro WiFi, i7-11700K 4.85GHz, 32GB RAM, Gigabyte RTX 4080, and use Frame Generation. I suspect if I did not use FG, and used VSYNC 50% refresh rate (so capped 30 FPS) as I did when I had a Gigabyte 3080Ti that maybe the options may make a difference? Anyway, that is my experience thus far over the last 24hrs, I plan on flying a flight to EGLL later today to test the arrival experience…something short like EIDW-EGLL to have a look see. It is quite a life like scenery, better than any previous rendition (and I have had them all going back to FS9).

Longest Sim 737NGX Flight Without Refueling?
Qantas operates seasonal services from Sydney to Denpasar (Bali) using the 737-800. Full fuel uplift, pax and bags only, and a decision point on route as to whether to proceed (committed to land at DPS) or tech stop (Broome, Port Headland, Darwin - depending on the route on the day). Land with about 2.7 tonne fuel remaining, so FFR plus 45 minutes. With SID to follow and manoeuvring within the Bali TMA it is just a tad over 2,920 miles. A very carefully managed sector.

win 10 what services and or features do you stop/disable ?
I used this guide for my dedicated FSX PC - https://tweakhound.com/2015/12/09/tweaking-windows-10/10/ It is very comprehensive and it works - i have never had a stutter (that I have seen) on my Win 10 i7-6700K 4.6Ghz GTX 1080 system. Remember to exclude your FSX folder from your antivirus, and your weather engine, ATC program and COUTL (if you use them) - especially if you use Avast. I use Windows 10 Pro as well - which allows you to set parameters around when windows update service is used. My understanding is that Windows 10 Home (or whatever it is called) does not have those options. Essentially, I have all apps and all privacy intrusion settings turned off. I have the same system on my laptop (which I use for everthing other than FSX) with everything turned on and it is like day and night with everything off versus everything on. Regards, Mark

My new GTX 1080 ran out of memory
That was actually funny. I laughed out loud to the extent my wife asked me what I was laughing at!

Brand New Win 10 PC and FSX Gold
I just thought I would circle back on this (almost 3 weeks later). The system I have had built is - Intel i7 6700K CPU OC 4.6G Noctua D15 Cooler ASUS Z170-P ( D4) motherboard 16G DDR4 2133Mhz 256G M.2 Samsung 950 Pro 2200mb/s + 1TB HDD Seagate 7200rpm ASUS Strix 8G GeForce GTX 1080 video card Cooler Master CM693 Case + Cooler Master 750w Plus Gold 22 Speed DVD RW Dual Layer Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit Built in Gigabit Lan USB 3.0 SATA 3.0 SATA Raid ASUS PCE-AC68 It does run FSX Gold beautifully. But, and there is always a but... In my experience, Windows 10 will run FSX Gold "out of the box". However, as soon as you add any complexity, it will NTDLL.DLL crash. UNLESS you run in DX10 mode. Using the Steve Fixer - FSX heaven. I run ORBX Australia and New Zealand, all GEX (except Australia and New Zealand), all UTX, Scenery Tech Landclass for areas UTX does not cover, Aerosoft A318,19, 20, 21, Majestic Q400, PMDG 737/777 and iFly 737 and a network of add on airports consistent with the network of the airline I work for in the RW and the system eats FSX. It has only taken about 9 years. I am very happy.

Brand New Win 10 PC and FSX Gold
With a brand new, technician built PC with Win 10 as OS, completely updated by the builder and all current drivers ready to go - does FSX Gold from the disks install correctly? It is hard to get a definitive answer looking through posts - most posts talk about an upgrade to Win 10 with an existing FSX installation. Given Jetline, Chillblast and Wired4Fire all seem to sell Flight Sim PC's with Win 10 now, has the latest versions of Win 10 solved (if any) compatibility issues? I'm replacing an almost 7 year old flight sim PC which still has the original FSX-A installation and still works well (FSX that is, the actual computer itself is starting to have problems given its age and has been "flogged to death") and whilst I can use the new rig as an opportunity to move to P3D, I literally have thousands of dollars invested in FSX and would still like to use it. Cheers, Mark

ATC addons
Well done that man! That is it. Don't be put off by the heading for FS2004. It is good for FSX as well.

ATC addons
This is going to be helpful and unhelpful at the same time. I use RC4. And have done for about 8 years; it is now on my 3rd FSX computer. My RC4 is not robotic in anyway, shape or form. However, it was when I first got it and I actually stopped using it for a while. This is the unhelpful bit because I can't remember... Somebody, somewhere, re did the wav files. He (or she) was a sound engineer. I can't remember what they did or where I got it from, but I have them on a memory stick, so when I change PC's which is about every four years, I can restore "my" version of RC4. And I have the instructions written down on a bit of paper (safely filed). Now, someone reading this will know precisely what I am talking about and may be able to point you to where you can get the updated wav set. RC4 maybe getting on to be 9 years old now, however as a RW pilot, the ATC world has not moved on that much, and I still use it because it is very good, precise, and incredibly easy to use.

WHQL 368.22 is actually a great driver for P3dv 3.2.3
mwa05 replied to Michael Moe's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcI agree this is a sweet driver for FSX. I have a GTX970 4GB with an i7-3770 OC'd and it is the first driver that has given me a noticeable performance boost. I just flew the iFly 737 NG into heavy weather, on descent to Fly Tampa YSSY and the rig ate it for breakfast. I don't know what Nvidia did, and reading the brochure does not give a clue, but something was done! Just remember if you use NI to save your current NIP file. Open that file in notepad and change its name to Microsoft Flight Simulator 10. Then once you have loaded the new driver, delete the old MS Flight Simulator X profile, AND the new Microsoft Flight Simulator 10 profile. Then import your edited one with the new name. Job done!

What kinds of routes did the MD-11 fly?
MD-11 services to/from Australia American - Los Angeles to Sydney Thai - Bangkok to Sydney, Sydney to Melbourne then Melbourne to Bangkok Malaysian- Kuala Lumpur to Perth I am sure Alitalia ran a MD-11 from Rome to Sydney and Melbourne via (I think, it was a long time ago) Singapore. I do remember it was AZ1763 outbound Australia back to Rome (1762 inbound) and it was twice a week (leaving Sydney on to Melbourne, then back to Rome via ??? on Tuesday and Saturday). It used to leave Melbourne around 1600L. I was a very junior burger in those days so always worked on the weekend, and being Sydney based at the time, often followed it down to Melbourne. The Thai MD-11 used to come down at least on Friday and Sunday nights (arriving into Melbourne from Sydney around 2230L (Thai Inter 985). Sorry cannot remember the call sign / flight no. of the MH and AA services. All of the above circa very early 1990's.

Looking for advice on a new build
I have almost precisely the same system (my GTX 970 is an EVGA, which is the only difference) and my overclock is 4.8 ( technician done and guaranteed) and it is pretty flawless running FSX.

It is one double sided A4 piece of paper, laminated and kept on the glareshield. This is it in its entirety, except for one security item which I have removed. wing views from the cockpit: ifly737 vs pmdg737
Nice video. That was the RNAV (RNP) Y RWY05 approach. I don't think it is published because you have to be regulator approved, but if anyone knows how I can paste the approach plate into a post, I am happy to try so you can build the approach into your FMS to do it. I have not looked for a while but whilst all of the waypoints are in the Navigraph database, the actual approach isn't so you need to build it by hand. If it is now in the database, disregard, as I am not home to look.

wing views from the cockpit: ifly737 vs pmdg737
I am home now so was eager to look at this given I have had both products since they came out for FSX and had never noticed! I could not find a view in either product that produced a scene as per the photo above or my original description. However, if I slewed (and I had to read up on how to do that) and did the virtual equivalent of pressing my nose against the rear flight deck window panel (as per the camera shot in the photo) then both products produced the same scene as per the photo and as per my original answer. There was no difference, So they both produced a wing and winglet as per the photo. Thus, I may be doing something different to you - perhaps you can let me know what it is you are doing to reach the conclusion you did that caused the original question and thread! Just for interest as I like learning new things. Re John_aus posts, I think he meant KPSP (Palm Springs) not KSPS (Sheppard AFB). Another good approach to try is NZQN RNAV RNP P RWY23 (Queenstown, New Zealand). If you own both iFly and PMDG do this approach (from Christchurch or Dunedin) in both and post how you went! Cheers, Mark

wing views from the cockpit: ifly737 vs pmdg737
Actually, you cannot see the wing from the flight deck, if you are seated in your control seat and you simply turn around and look over your shoulder through the side windows You physically have to manoeuvre and poke your nose into the side window to see it.

Which NG?
Hi Achilleas, To be honest, I have never looked around the exterior of the iFly, PMDG or any other airplane I have other than panning around when I first load the sim to pre load the video buffer. I am always amazed to read when people find small glitches in brake line graphics etc of a model I have had for ages and I have never noticed... However, on to something I can talk about - speed. Most modern jets including the 737 don't like to go down and slow down at the same time. Descent at idle power modes in VNAV or LVL CHG are done at selected speed. Anything steeper requires either speedbrake or a speed increase to a higher selected speed. You do this in the FMS for VNAV or the speed window for LVL CHG. If a gentler descent is required, selecting a lower V/S will change the autopilot mode out of VNAV or LVL CHG and it will (try to) fly the airplane at the selected ROD and the selected speed in the speed window. To get the best rate of descent at any speed use LVL CHG and Speedbrake, remembering that VNAV will follow the planned path at the expense of speed, thus planned is the optimum word there, so if your environment changes ie tailwind, reach for the speedbrake as the FMS will display the drag required message. The 737 is a great glider! Cheers, Mark

Which NG?
I did not say iFly lets me configure more than PMDG so I don't understand the source of the quote. Both products have configuration tools. Both largely do the same thing. If you pick up a 737 FCOM, you will see throughout an annotation (as installed) - just like a car owners manual! It just so happens that on a couple of (as installed) items on the PMDG model, they cannot be removed / selected by the configuration tool. They are part of the model code and our 737 RW fleet does not have those items. That is not a criticism, it is just a fact. Whereas two in particular are choices on the iFly so I choose not to have the item installed which therefore does not effect my scan when I am using the sim for some prep purposes. In other words, my scan on PMDG is interrupted by an instrument that does not appear on our flight decks which I can't remove but I can remove it with the other product. Also, the centre console on the PMDG model is laid out quite differently to our fleet at work whilst iFly with one exception is the same. I reiterate, it does not mean one is better, just more suited for a particular, discrete purpose that would be irrelevant to the greater majority.

Which NG?
To use the WX radar in either the PMDG or iFly 737, you need ASN. In both aircraft, ASN feeds the display on the ND. At the end of the day, neither completely function as per the real airplane, but they are more than adequate for simulation purposes. I don't have a strong opinion either way as to which one is better in this regard - I tend to fly and use what is presented rather than over analyse one product over the other. As I previously said, I prefer the iFly airplane because it can be configured precisely to my company spec, and everything is in the same spot (perhaps iFly modelled their airplane on our variant - I have no idea). That does not mean it is better - it just means it more closely matches my particular needs. If you fly 2D, then iFly has a full 2D suite whereas PMDG does not 2D to the same level although it has a main 2D panel. You can get your money back within 30 days with iFly, with PMDG you can't. However, as Jim said above, you can't go wrong with PMDG, it is a licensed Boeing product, the other offering is not (although from a line flying point of view I would struggle to find a meaningful difference). No doubt PMDG is preferred by the vast majority of users so although I may appear to swim against that very strong tide, it is for a discrete reason. Either way you will be happy, provided they play nice on a laptop(which I have no experience to share). Let us know what you decide! Cheers, Mark

Which NG?
Achilleas, I'm not at home at the moment to turn on the PC and look and I am not much of a "tweaker" - I tuned the PMDG as per the manual when I got it, it has always been fine, so I never have spent anytime fiddling to get it to be smooth - it was great "out of the box" but the key piece I remember is that you can adjust the flight deck textures for performance with a tool that downloads with the airplane. The iFly does not have that option. You said that you mainly use 2D, I don't - and I have a technician over clocked i7, whereas your on a laptop, so FPS comparisons are not going to mean much. However, in any situation in the VC, the iFly is about 2 to 3 frames less than the PMDG, but I fly unlimited frame lock and I am talking PMDG maybe 36 and the iFly 33 in the same situation, so it is academic. If I go into an iFly 2D panel sitting at a 3rd party airport (i.e Fly Tampa Sydney, RWY34R facing the city with FTX Australia SP4) I can get over 100 FPS on a 120 Hz monitor. You can always try iFly first and see if you like each other and it likes your laptop, because you can get your money back in the first 30 days if you buy from Flight1. Re weather engine, I have had in order Rex, FSGRW and ASN. ASN SP4.1 is the one to buy out of those 3 because it dynamically adjusts performance (i.e cloud draw) as you fly so it (in my experience) is much better FPS wise than the other two I own. And there is nothing to do except download it, follow the prompts and fly. You do not have to configure anything - it is all automatic and given I look at a lot of sky for a living, is the best representation of weather I have had. In fact it is pretty spot on. FSGRW comes a close second but to get the best from that program you have to set cloud draw in your FSX.cfg to =12 and even on a computer like mine, can turn bad weather into a bit of a stuttering mess. Anything less than =12 (and remember 8 is the max you can select with the slider) the depiction seems to surround your airplane but does not stretch to the horizon. Cheers, Mark

Which NG?
I have both PMDG and iFly B737's for FSX and I personally prefer the iFly 737 because I can configure the iFly aircraft in precisely the same configuration that we have here at work, whereas the PMDG aircraft cannot be configured precisely to my company spec. So, that is probably not important to a lot of simmers if they have no reason to be aligned for real world purposes. Having said that, the iFly is slightly heavier on frames than the PMDG on my system (i7-3770, GTX970, 16GB RAM) and the PMDG has more options for performance tuning than the iFly, which may be more important to you given your using a laptop. I personally prefer the iFly VC given its aspect and viewpoint is more akin to what I am used to in the RW, as the PMDG has a compromise VC aspect and viewpoint through the windshield to accomodate the way the HUD is presented. The PMDG HUD is excellent though! If the 2D panels are more important, then the iFly has a lot more options in that regard than the PMDG version, and my final comment is that to get the full range that PMDG offers, you have to make two purchases where as iFly has all variants in the one package. You can purchase the iFly from Flight1 with a 30 day money back guarantee however PMDG (insofar as I can recall) don't have that option. Cheers, Mark

froze at splash screen
Have you updated your Nvidia driver by any chance? The latest release 361.43 does not work with FSX and it freezes it as described. You need to roll back to 359.06 which definitely works with no issues, as I have it.
