November 2, 20178 yr Well, not surprising, there was never (back in FSX days) and there will be never the one magical setting that boosts your FPS up like hell. Prepar3d still uses the ESP based engine we now know for more than 10 years, don't you think that the "magical performance boosting setting" would have been discovered already years ago? It is, how it is: either you reduce your settings and lose image quality for the sake of more FPS or you further improve your hardware. If you are already using top notch hardware, there is the point where you can't do anything anymore to improve your FPS. Also you should never forget about "relativity": if your wish is to improve your FPS in a heavy scenario from e.g. 20 to 25 or even 30FPS, just step back a second and think about what you are actually asking for. This FPS increase would mean 25-50% more FPS, how the heck should that be possible without greatly reducing some settings? Take into account that from one generation of Intel CPU's to another you might get 5-7% more FPS and you will further realize how unrealistic an performance increase of 25-50% is due to adapted settings... November 2, 20178 yr I still think the best tweak in P3D and now v4 with locked FPS is this. Its the only tweak I use. [Main] FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.01 Some say it they same as FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.10 am not convinced! I Run FPS (25)locked V S and TB ON (My monitor is 125 refresh rate hence the 25 lock) and when I added the above all my long frames/stutters went it was like magic. But then I do spent hours testing and getting it running as best I can on my PC. Taken from LM web site. So no need to take my word. (This btw goes back to FSX days.) Think of it this way you default 0.33 (33%) as "to high" then read below! ------------------------------------------ [MAIN] FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.33 Non-Default entry. This entry will not exist in your Prepar3D.cfg file by default and must be added to the file. Performance Tuning Tip: This setting, which defaults to a value of .33 (33%), defines the percentage of each frame that is devoted to loading scenery. Increasing this number can reduce "the blurries", but it can cause stutters, and can also reduce the overall frame rate. Try reducing the number to the lowest level where you still get smooth scenery paging. This will vary depending on disk speed as well as the type of flying, as well as the selected scenery settings --------------------------------------- A 3rd of every second to loading scenery is hell of a lot of CPU time given how v4 using GPU a lot more. CPU time that your sim can put to better needs. This tweak has been around for years but it's a classic! David Murden. At JFK I loose all rwy lights and terminals with "sparse" So it seems to depend on the developer and the way how buildings and custom autogen is implemented. Ok, so it cannot be used in all cases, but for sure for London which has great performance impact especially on the FSL Airbus. It would be wiser if developers didn't rely their airport buildings to the Scenery Complexity slider, as my test in London, clearly shows that the performance hit is not coming from the airport's buildings, but from the custom buildings around the airport. I use the FFTF=0.01 tweak and besides common conscious of using unlimited frames, I find also that locking my frames internaly at 31 along with Vsync+triple buffering+monitor set at 30Hz, I get the smoothest flying experience. November 2, 20178 yr Bruno over at FSL posted about Orbx lights. This goes back years but as he has pointed out the exe are still there. Orbx back a few years said run the day exe to give a performance boost because lights are draw but do not show in the day time. So running FTXLights_P3D_Day.exe turns lights off. Am at work so cannot test it, but still have FSX installed here Ran the day then the FTXLights_P3D_Night.exe and like I remember after running the night exe you get this. Ive asked over at Orbx. Can someone test it? I hope Bruno is onto something. Funny how most of us forgot about this. 14 hours ago, B_r_u_n_o R_o_l_o said: One thing that made a huge difference on my system was to turn off ORBX Lights (go to your ORBX/Scripts Folder and run the FTXLights_P3D_Day.exe . November 2, 20178 yr Author One thing which I noticed today that it makes things a little better is the memory dump.. I did the switch a long time from Win 7 to Win 10, I did not check it and updated. I removed the paging file and things seems to be smoother (but I got a AppX crash due to lack of swap :D), as I have anyway 32GB DDR4 @ 3200MHz. I reduced also ASCA clouds at 512Mb. Regarding the Orbx lights, it might be, but they do look nice during the dark :D I did not try it yet. November 2, 20178 yr Hi All Admiring all this tweaking-way beyond my pay grade! I had noticed in previous posts re P3Dv4 settings -around June23rd-that various rather more senior members than I had noted that leaving P3D to do its thing ie Default Setting did the business. P3D v4.1even put texture resolution to 1 as per Bert Pieke- on my machine anyway! Tried my A2A planes and Extreme Prototypes Lear at Squamish CYSE and Friday Harbour KFHR -notorious high demand areas-all smooth for me No doubt I will start tweaking but not just yet -enjoying getting on with flying! xxd09
