Hardware advise

Featured Replies

Hey!

I'm currently running a 6600k at 4.4ghz 16GB ddr4 2300 kit of ram with a 1060 6GB.

I have p3d v4 running quite well. I do have a few issues with DL and shimmering however I've managed to live with it.

I have a few pennies saved up and Im now in a position to get a 1070.

My question is if it's worth the upgrade from the 1060?

Should I save up more and get the 1070ti?

Should I change the cpu, would that make a noticeable difference?

Or should I just skip the upgrade and wait for the next generation of hardware?

Thank you!

I have to agree with simbol. If you can, wait until you can afford a 1080 Ti.

I'm running an overclocked 1070 for P3D v4 and it has a load of 99-100% giving only 20-24 FPS when I'm flying the PMDG NGX into payware scenery. It also struggles with dynamic lighting at big airports and with clouds other than on the lowest texture settings.

If the prices come down into my budget, I'll look to upgrade. Videos of simmers using a 1080 Ti make me a little impatient for that day when I can!

I agree - the performance increase would not be worth the $$ unless you go to a 1080Ti.

Yep, a 1080 TI will do it for DL and a 4K screen to take care of shimmering, but that's a lot of $$..

They will drop like a stone when Volta, or possibly Ampere, releases.

Been a good 12 months for nVidia...

i7 6700K @ 4.6GHz, ASUS Z170-PRO GAMING, 32GB DDR4 2666MHz, 750W EVGA SuperNOVA, 512GB Samsung 960 PRO, 1TB Western Digital - Black Edition
RTX 2080Ti (MSI trio), Corsair H115i - 280mm Liquid CPU Cooler

Yeah well....Year and a half a go when I was ordering new machine I thought It is one of the best....latest MB, Video Card...etc now I am reading - Coffee Lake, That lake, This lake, I8, I9, Volta, Ampere...But at the end of the day, after this 64 Bit upgrade, everything suddenly looks much brighter with what I have. But it looks like never ending story, upgrade, upgrade, LOL. Of course that stock goes up.....

Thanks all for the advise, I'm probably going to hold on the purchase for now. The 1060 is still working well for now. Let's hope the new cards are worth it. BTW does Nvidia launch new cards at the same price of the old ones?

No wonder without any competition :-)

Good for the shareholders, not good for us customers.
