March 4, 20188 yr I have suddenly started seeing default land textures where water should be when flying around the UK with Horizon VFR Photographic Scenery installed. Everything was perfectly fine until today, and I am starting to suspect that installing France VFR Basse Normandie has done something to one of my cfg files. I have since uninstalled this scenery (because I thought that it might reverse the situation), but the problem remains. Can anyone offer any suggestions? I do not seem to be able to fix it Edited March 4, 20188 yr by Christopher Low Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
March 7, 20188 yr Author No suggestions? After disabling all of my scenery addons and reactivating them one by one, I have located the source of the problem as the PlayHorizon VFR Photographic Scenery Volume 3 Area 2 2.4m Photo folder. I decided to uninstall Volume 3 (and Volume 8, since this borders the Volume 3 region), and reinstall, but this has not solved the problem. I will probably have to laboriously check to see which file (or files) are the source of the issue, but to be honest I am not really sure what I can do even if I find them...... I do not seem to be able to fix it Are you using ultimate terrain products? If so after installing an add on scenery running the config tool always fixed this issue for me. March 7, 20188 yr A shot in the dark here Christopher, but I seem to recall reading in a discussion on the ORBX forums a few years ago that France VFR alters your terrain.cfg, which sounds pretty much like what is happening to you. have a look in there to see if there is anything relevant to France VFR. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to get a fresh copy of the terrain.cfg file from either your ORBX installation or by asking on their forums. Cheers Jack Edited March 7, 20188 yr by la-180 Jack Johnston
March 7, 20188 yr I was going to say Terrain.cfg Back up the one you've got Delete terrain.cfg Run sim to rebuild it Close sim Run orbx Centre as administrator Run sim to see if fixed Edited March 7, 20188 yr by tooting
March 7, 20188 yr Author If I let P3D rebuild the terrain.cfg, won't I need to reinstall (or reconfigure) ALL of my scenery addons? I do not use ORBx regional scenery (only complete photoscenery of the UK and Ireland). I also do NOT use any UTX (or similar) products. March 7, 20188 yr No you won't Make a back of the original Chris. Then you be able to revert back. But the original is knackered anyways
March 7, 20188 yr Author Sadly, letting P3D rebuild the terrain.cfg has not solved the problem Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
March 7, 20188 yr Hi Chris, I have experienced something similar in the past. In my case it was water, water everywhere where in fact land should be. If memory serves I think deleting the content of the SceneryIndexes_x64 folder fixed it. No harm in giving it a shot as P3D will rebuild the Scenery Indexes at next run. ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\SceneryIndexes_x64 Regards, Mike
March 7, 20188 yr Author Thanks for the suggestion, Mike........but that did not work either Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
March 7, 20188 yr Commercial Member I would check the scenery.cfg and have a look at the file dates in the P3D folders for changes. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
March 7, 20188 yr Author I have tried an older version of the scenery.cfg, Steve......but no luck. Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
March 7, 20188 yr I'm afraid you may be looking at a bottom-up rebuild of the whole sim, then. Ouch. BTW, Lorby-SI's free P3D Addon Manager saves a copy of all the P3D config files (including the terrain.cfg) when you use its backup function...once you get things working again, it might be a good idea to save a snapshot of your config periodically with this very useful tool. March 8, 20188 yr Author Elaine mentioned in another forum thread somewhere about rebuilding the lclookup.bgl file. I do not know if this would help in my situation, but I encountered a problem when I followed the instructions.... Go to the Prepar3D v3/Scenery/BASE/Scenery folder Delete the SCENERY folder Right click on the Install_Scenery.msi file, and select REPAIR The problem here is that I am unable to find Install_Scenery.msi Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
