June 30, 200619 yr Hello Everyone,I just bought cloud 9's Klax, and am in need of the names of airports with difficult approaches, or a nice scenic approachs, in order to do some flights from Klax to them. Thanks in advanceAaronhttp://www.australiansceneries.tk
June 30, 200619 yr I fly out of KLAX alot and favorite destinations for me are, KLAS,Las Vegas, KSFO, San Francisco and KSAN, San Diego.Get KSAN from Flytampa. Its a short flight less than 200 miles, with ASV the weather is usually marginal and the approach into runway 27 is localizer only. There is a 3 story parking garage right off the end of the runway which you dust off and is one of my favorite approaches.
June 30, 200619 yr Heavy or light? Light: Since you are are in the region, try KAVX Catalina Island. Very short hop but really nice. Next hop east to KHII (Lake Havasu). Not challenging per se, but nestled in the heart of the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. Again, only a short-ish hop for you, depending on the ac. For a longer hual that almost guarantees IMC weather and a challenge, head north to KACV (Arcata). Finally, head northwest to KTVL (Tahoe Valley). Use the plates or try getting in by joining the pattern. Heavy: KLAS, KRNO, KMRY, KOAK, KEKO besides the ones that will be more obvious to you.If you want to leave the west coast, it get's even more interesting...Cheyenne Wyoming is a must
June 30, 200619 yr Las Vegas at night is nice.As for challenging.. well.... try Aspen Colorado. KASE in marginal weather.http://www.airnav.com/airport/KASEManny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarterÂ
June 30, 200619 yr If you get away from the West coast, try the airport named "Mountain Air" in North Carolina. The airport is located on a mountaintop. It's especially nice with some add-on terrain. It would be GA only...Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
June 30, 200619 yr Anyone know if that's a public parking garage? I go to SAN for business every now and then and keep thinking I should drive into that garage on one of these trips. That has to be one of the greatest plane watching locations around.Matt>I fly out of KLAX alot and favorite destinations for me are,>KLAS,Las Vegas, KSFO, San Francisco and KSAN, San Diego.>Get KSAN from Flytampa. June 30, 200619 yr HiWell, I'm from NY. So, I would have to say that the KJFK - Canarsie (Parkway) Visual into 13L or 13R would be a good choice. July 1, 200619 yr KJAC - Jackson Hole Wyoming... beautiful approach especially in the winter.http://www.kthxdone.com/images/kw_ft.jpgKen Weik [link:maam.org|MAAM-SIM][link:library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=root&SearchTerm=kenneth+weik&Sort=Added&ScanMode=0&Go=Change+View]My AFCADs
July 1, 200619 yr I'd have to second KJAC, it's a great approach anytime. There should be some free scenery for the airport here in the library somewhere also. Jeff D. July 1, 200619 yr KJAC is nice. Good call. Check the charts tho, there are only a few safe approaches in and out of there.
July 2, 200619 yr Make sure to fly to Big Bear City... think it is L35... IMHO one of the nicest flights around Orange or LA County. IT is surrounded by Mountains, and the approach over Big Bear Lake is really nice in real life or the FS. Especially if you have FSGenesis Mesh and Landclass. It give you accuracy so close to real life, if you compare a photo to a screen shot from the same place, they are almost exact. Only difference is basically the number of trees, etc.. Another flight you may want to take, though further north, is fly in or out of Paradise, CA... If you fly to or from there, its the closest thing to landing on a carrier, on land. Takeoff over a cliff where the land drops out from below you, or land heading at the cliff. Jackson Hole is also one I like, especially when its partly cloudy. Ive had more than one occasion, where the clouds were on the runway, or covering it, and clear all around. Had to do one or two go arounds until VFR visibility was clear enough to land.
July 2, 200619 yr My suggestion would be Missoula Montana (KMSO). It's just about surrounded by mountains. And there is a very nice Missoula airport scenery made by John Young here in the library (kmso_jy1.zip)that makes the flight even better. Also Palm Springs and Albuquerque are nice places to fly. (There is scenery for both those airport also)
July 2, 200619 yr Author Get Shez's KPSP from here. its a short flight from lax and awesome approach into it. Eric  Â
