why are shadows so bad in P3D?

With how good things are getting with P3D 4.3, the shadows are still terrible. Great add ons for scenery, airports and aircraft.... yet still crappy shadows.

Nothing like doing an approach with the best aircraft and the best scenery add ons and the shadow from the engine strake looks like a pixelated scene from Qbert.

Whoa. I like the saturated colors in those pictures. How do you achieve that look?

I agree the shadows look nice from a distance, but the issue is that those close up, particularly in the VC, can sometimes look very pixelated.

Well, some people like to fly a plane while sitting in the cockpit 😁 and the shadows usually look bad there. If you mainly use the sim to shoot landscape pictures the problem isn't too big indeed. 😉

I made a video last year on how to improve shadow quality (at the cost of FPS) here:

Cheers, Rob.

I use Rob's adjustment and the effect is very noticable, even if you only use half of the suggested resolution in the video. The performance impact is there, but that's no surprise, no?

Great video. Rob, please could you guide me from where you got that tiny OSD for CPU usage, VRAM usage, Core Temp,  ...

Thanks.
