P3Dv4.3 : my observations

Featured Replies

I am using 2x980s in SLI, and for some reason the GPU isn't getting hit hard at all at Uk2000 EGLL on top of Orbx FTX England.  But if I go to Flightbeam KMSP on top of Global+vector - I am seeing GPU activity go up.

Why isn't GPU activity going up at EGLL?  So strange.

As Beau suggests, if you are currently GPU limited (easy to be GPU limited, 8XSSAA and DL and DR and shadow tweaks will easily put 99-100% load on a single GPU).  But if you are CPU limited, then you'll not realize much gain or even loss in performance due to SLI overhead.

Cheers, Rob.

As I use Shadows distance at High, 4X SSAA  and there are most of the time  cumulus clouds and OC here at the Netherlands SLI might help a lot ....

did two small videos Single and SLI, iam not a videomaker

Orbx ESSA , Aersoft A319 that is easy on the system.

Vsync 30HZ

Cpu 8700k 5.3ghz HT off , GPU Galaxy 1080TI overclocked to 2114mhz only to help the single card.

in your case not the entire bottleneck weight is on your GPU or SLI configuration

No, it's on Core 0, or the first core I allow if I used the affinity mask.

i suspect it is also affected by the projection software used in conjunction

No. Of course I've tested with and without every other thing running. It is purely down to P3D's inability to support more than one scenery Window without a severe drop in performance. The Tru-view software overhead is miniscule -- no difference in frame rates at all.

If I just have one such window stretched across the entire 210 degrees of the 3 projector output, the frame rate is excellent, even with sliders turned up and more AI traffic. I would run it that way if the distortion at both sides was bearable and if I could achieve 210 degree FOV (or even only 180) with P3D, which I can't (it's about 155 degrees at lowest zoom settable).

So am I reading this right? In FSXE SE I can undock any or all of the screens in PMDG (VC) and drag them to a second monitor which is extremely useful so I don't have to scan down to read the instruments . This is for a zero loss in FPS

Is this not possible in P3D? I ask as I will be transferring over after my next system build

With FSX ( SE ) and P3D you will loose FPS ...

Only the main view is 3D accelerated if I am correct ..

Both locked at 30. In fsx there was a 50% drop but not in fsx se, I dont know if you can see the FPS properly I dont know how to make it bigger

Here is a better FPS showing the UNDOCKED screens on a second screen. Not good news if I cant do this in P3D. I know it can be done in xplane as well via The interface

@Pete Dowson
baffling!
you pointed out this issue a while back on another forums; shortly after we encountered a similar issue with one of our customers,
with this limitation still imposed; we were able to devise and architect a solution!

we've implemented this as a prof of concept (Rob A. is  prob wise to it by now )
part of it it has since been added as a new function in BMNG as well,
anyhow... if you would like to give it another go let me know ❤️

The second Gigabyte 1080 Ti Gaming OC arrived and I just did some tests without flying.

The most important test

FT Schiphol + True Earth NL + ASP4 + PSXseeconTraffic HD models

At Schiphol at rw 24 with Live Traffic + OC + 4XSSAA , cloud shadows High and 1 card : 18-19.5 FPS

The same place with SLI , 8XSSAA and cloud Shadows Max : 29.5-31.2 FPS

This looks real good 😎

SLI seems to work for you to,

not what you said, the issue in and of itself,

Which issue? That, for me, SLI helped with smoothness, or that multiple scenery windows has a drastic affect on performance?

So, what limitation have you overcome? Can you make 3 scenery windows perform better? I'm intrigued.

Otherwise, what is the above about? It is intiguing but it is now me who is "baffled". 😉

i was referring to the multiple windows having such drastic affect on performance,
indeed we were able to increase performance on 3 x 4k!
this was mainly designed to increase night flight performance pushing more lights into view,
in his case day frames went from around 60 to 200+ when boosted,
i cant guarantee the exact outcome in your case; but we do have new elements to work with now,
i think its worth a try especially in your situation,
