FSX at Oshkosh!

Featured Replies

Hmm... FS booth at Farnborough - power loss. FS booth at Oshkosh - power loss. None of the beta testers are allowed to say anything. There's only one conclusion:IT'S A CONSPIRACY!AMD's recent purchase of ATI is the second-to-last piece of the puzzle to drop into place. Their [a href=http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/07/26/amd_demos_4x4/]next-gen machine[/a] - due out at pretty much the same time as FSX, by pure coincidence - looks powerful enough to do it, even if the 'demo' machines at the shows can't. (Two dual-core CPUs, four graphics cards, 2Gb memory). And the last piece of evidence is the rumour the upcoming release of the much-hyped 'Zune', a video/3D capable portable device from... yes, Microsoft. Coupled with a copy of Apple's existing motion-sensor technology, this would be ideal for simming on the go, flying just by tilting the entire device instead of using a tiny thumbpad.Suddenly it all fits into place... The rumours of the Deluxe Version - clearly for AMD's monster gaming rig - and the Standard Version, for the motion-sensing 3D handheld Zune - make much more sense. The special emphasis on the gamepad controller from a while ago on somebody's blog (Zune), the news of a Vista 'showcase' title with stunning graphics (AMD 4x4).Man, I'm just surprised nobody saw this before...Jim:-eek

>I'm very surprised as well.Yeah, me, too.

I don't understand why the general public is allowed to use the beta version at Oshkosh and yet beta testers are not allowed to give the hardcore fans information on the beta because of the NDA. :(

What is happening with fsx? All i hear is bad news, of crashes and bad performance...hope they get it sorted out, getting a little worried...hmm

Sounds like even after tuning it will be running alot slower than FS9 at the same graphics settings. Lets hope the DX10 version runs ok.

The news on FSX will be happening at the AVSIM Convention in September. What do I have to do? Draw you guys a picture??? Be there or be square! (now if that doesn't date me, nothing will) :)/shameless plug off

I'm screwed if MS plans on making FSX "optimized" only for DX10 because I have a laptop, and although it has a very good 7900gs in it, I obviously can't upgrade it a DX10 card. Yeah, not much news at Oshkosh. No details of features, just reports of bad performance. It'll probably be like this up until release, whenever that is. Heres to hoping it improves and it runs on our current systems.

I am sure they will have made some progress by then. I would rather Microsoft take their time to get it right rather than having them release a buggy version.RH

>>I'm very surprised as well.>>Yeah, me, too. I would have been happy to make a report since I was there on Tuesday, but out of the three times I got my hands on it, the computers or the graphic cards crashed because it was quite hot and the computers were enclosed in unproperly ventilated locked cases. While waiting for my turn I could see that others were luckier, but I couldn't try anything myself. For example, when I started the A321 Demo Flight at Farnborough with great expectations, I couldn't get more than 3 or 4 FPS for a minute, until it froze completely. It was a big disappointment, but I've seen enough of it on the other computers to want to buy FSX the minute it hits the shelves.--M

Of course, that is their JOB as a beta tester, but reporting it publically could generate a significant feeling that the product is bad, slow in developing, or otherwise faulty. You and I would understand that it is in beta and "should" have some bugs, but Joe Public might not make the connection and decide here and now that FSX is buggy and not worth buying. Allowing public users to play with the beta at shows is a calculated risk, I guess...-Greg

Well *I* think what happened was, "Murphy's Law". That ALWAYS happens when you demo something at a convention. Nothing ever goes as smoothly as you would like.I bet half the problems were lack of good clean power. P/S's not putting out, and you get bad performance, and crashes.Rhett
