ASCA or Not

Featured Replies

I have been using AS4 and ASCA together for awhile.  I now have added REX Sky Force and Environment Force.  My question is when I use AS, SF, and EF together,  what do I do about ASCA?  Should I deactivate it or let it run automatically like it has always done when using AS.  Does it even come into play?  Just need some guidance on this.  Thanks.

Jim

If you uncheck the options for ASCA injecting cloud structures, cloud textures, etc then it will not impact the sim, but there is no harm in letting it load with AS.  Plus this gives you the option to quickly go back to ASCA if you want a change.

If you have ASCA with AS4 I don't understand the need for the other.

I'm on AS4+ASCA, too.

I tried REX SkyForce several times for a short time, and I always returned to the AS4+ASCA combo. I added ENVTEX to this set and everything is fine.😉

But if you want to use AS4+SF, you can use ASCA additionally for changing sky textures dynamically.

Can you explain your set-up?  The above post refers to REX Skyforce & not AS.

I still use ASCA for the ENVTEX sky color integration + EF (auto mode) + SF + AS4 and it works.

Just disable the option for "automatic texture sync" in EF (that prevents the loading of the REX sky textures by EF) and start SF + EF (now SF does the cloud structur sync.).

Find the asca exe file and add .off to the end of it.  Problem solved

It's not my setup, I use AS4+ASCA+ENVTEX+ENVSHADE, but concerning my suggestion one could use the following setup:

AS4 - weather engine
REX SkyForce - clouds and cloud structures
ASCA - sky textures (ideally in combination with ENVTEX because it delivers far bether sky textures)
ENVSHADE or REX EF - for shadows

When starting P3Dv4 you can run REX SkyForce for changing cloud structures while flying. moreover you can run ASCA additionally for changing sky textures on the fly. ASCA needs to run in GLOBAL or FULL DYNAMIC mode.
