I'm Back and i need help.

Featured Replies

Hello, I'm going back to the world of flight simulation. I spent many years away, almost 10 years. My last experience was with fs9 and after much research among the current options I bought P3D v4.

I would like some help regarding the minimum to have a pleasant simulation.

What I already have, is the simulator and the A2A bonanza.

But I would like a real-time weather simulator (in my time I used the active sky)

I would like some help in deciding on the next acquisitions.

1 - Weather in real time
2 - Clouds
3 - Air Traffic
4 - Global Mesh

My current configuration is an Acer Predator Notebook.
With a GTX 1060, I7 7700 HQ, 16GB of ram and an exclusive 500GB SSD for the simulator

Tb configuration tips are welcome, is it still necessary to do tweaks in "CFG" as was done in FS9?
Thank you!

Hi, welcome back to sim!

1. Active Sky for P3D

2. REX Sky Force

3. F1 Ultimatic Traffic live

4. I don't use mesh.

May be good camera addon - Ezdok v. 3, or Chaseplane too 🙂

I used to mesh Global Ultimate, but very often at different airports I observed problems with the height of the runways relative to the landscape. Now I do not use mesh and always know that any payware or default airfield will be in its place. I think you need mesh if you fly low in the mountains in the style of Bush-plane.

We all have different set-ups.  Personally I use:

  1. HiFi Active Sky (uodated at reduced cost from FSX licence)
  2. HiFi Active Sky Cloud Art (uodated at reduced cost from FSX licence)
  3. Alpha India AI Manager/One Click Installer genuine freeware from the best people https://www.alpha-india.net/2018/11/13/aig-ai-manager-one-click-installer/
  4. ORBX Base Pack/Vector/Land Class

There's a lot else out there to spend money on so I'd particularly urge you to look at Alpha India new AI system.  It's free and if you don't like it then you can always buy one of the others.

If you've been away so long, do not buy so much. In 2020, it will be Microsoft again give a new Sim.
When I was still on the FSX there were statements from P3D Simmern. Are you still flying or you still are Twaeks?
If I look at the P3D forum here, then that does not look different.

Well, *if* Microsoft delivers on a new simulator in 2020, and *if* that is actually the simulator we hope for and not a flight-themed arcade game, and *if* they provide SDK support from the beginning to expose the sim's internals to third-party add-ons, and *if* they truly do partner with quality add-on developers without trying to force them into their own proprietary marketplace arrangement like they attempted to do with Flight, then it will still be years before the add-on makers can re-tool and produce anything close to the depth and variety of what's available right now for P3Dv4.

That's a lot of "ifs" and then a lot of time waiting once such a sim might materialize.  So it boils down to how much use you can get from add-ons purchased now and flown during those years of waiting for something that may or may not pan out.

I think you're safe with P3Dv4 for a good long time still.

With respect to tweaks, there is very little that needs to be done to make P3Dv4 run well.  If you use a CPU with hyperthreading enabled, an affinity mask setting is recommended, and there are a couple of settings I use to improve texture redraw behavior (MAX_TEXTURE_REQUEST_DISTANCE and SCENERY_DRAW_DISTANCE), and that's about it.  There is much, much less fiddling than with FSX/FS9.
