I'm playing simulation-games, i'm playing race games, i'm playing survival games, action games, sports games and VR. I'm actually playing whatever i want to. I've spent thousand of hours in flight sims, i'm simming seriously with proper flight planning, using so called "study-level-aircraft" to recreate real life flights, trying to follow SOP's and avaiation procudures to the letter and i've spent an ungodly amount of cash on flight sim addons. And i laugh about those who consider themselves a "simmer" and not a "gamer".... A little off topic but... Can you play them all at the same time?...because I cant. I will do a month or 2 with flight sims (XP / DCS), then another month or 2 with train simulator, then another stretch with car sims (Pcars / AC), then switch to Xbox gaming.

Nope not all genres at the same time, real life interferes too often 🙂 It mainly depends on time and mood, but i keep switching between genres regularly, not just every couple of months. I actually did a 7 month flight-sim-hiatus recently, to my surprise it was incredibly hard to get back into it. For just a few months out of game i forgot way too many things 😄 Favorite facepalm moment was a gear-down-climb up to 8'000 feet because i was distracted by a weird FMC message right after take off which took me far too long to resolve, haha

Since they've been doing this for years - their development team has a serious head start and has probably hit its stride - while MS is just getting started again... I also tend to be more reserved with my expectations - much as I was when DTG was going to be the next GREATEST sim ever... As for "default" content - - - I'd much rather both developers focus on the core engine and engine functionality - instead of wasting time on trying to be all things to all people by worrying about the quality of default content... There's no way MS or LM are going to invest the hours to be an A2A, Leonardo, Majestic class developer... One major thing I'd like to be added to any sim is "inertia" - as I understand it - it doesn't exist in our flight models as they stand now... Anyway - just my nickels worth... Regards, Scott Hi Scott...I tend to agree with you. I hope this new SIM works out in the future. I do think that we (users, simmers, gamers, young and old) are already asking a lot of MS. We don't know much at all yet and to expect so much of them at this point seems like a heavy load to say the least. Like you, I also like P3D and it's like everyone has forgotten that Version 5 is probably getting close now. It is a lot to expect of MS to compete with P3D Ver 4 little on Ver 5 right out of the gate. If they can then they get my money...simple as that. For me at this point it is hard to imagine giving up my Vertx DA-62 as it is now the only plane I have added to P3D. It is nice that MS is trying again and good to see that they scan the forums to see what folks are squealing ..LOL about. The P3D users are all former users of the FS franchise (not only FSX !) who basically think that this simulation engine/environment is better than any other on the market (if you see what I mean 😈) ! P3Dv4 is FS12 ! To see the franchise get a good facelift is something to welcome. Specially that P3Dv4 was a meh version (except for the PMDG crowd afflicted by OOMs). Actually two facelifts ; Fs20 and v5 (hopefully). The only problem MS has with the P3D users is trust. They dropped the ball 10 years ago and any simmer is glad if not grateful that LM took it up. Next question : for how long MS will stay in the business this time ? Answer : I don't know but I sure wish that LM stays on the radar screen . Just in case... Not a widely known sim ? I am not so sure as it seems that many flight schools use it nowadays. Th only thing I would agree on, is that it is difficult to find a worse brandname than Prepar3d to appeal to the public 😊 ! July 30, 20196 yr 3 hours ago, Flamingpie said: Because of the functionality. Or maybe I should say because of the add ons. No serious flight simmer uses P3D as it is out of the box. It all depends on what MSFS offers out of the box and if or how fast things will be on par with P3D when it comes to features. The fact that MSFS is part of the FS franchise doesn't matter much here: it all depends on the offered functionality. And of course it is very personal and subjective which features will convince you to leave P3D behind. I myself have P3D uninstalled already so it won't take much for me to be convinced but I am sure a lot of P3D users will need a lot more convincing. 😉 Like you, I have already deleted P3D from my machine. I currently run XP but I expect to switch to MSFS on day 1. However, depending on what is available on day 1, I also think that others may take longer to switch as more features / updates / addons become available. This is where I hope that MS doesn't get discouraged "if" initial sales do not live up to expectations.. For example, I was a huge fan of FSW and its potential, however, I was so invested in addons for both P3D and XP at the time, that I did not immediately switch (I purchase it to support the Dev, but did not run it) because I was waiting for FSW to develop further along...iron out bugs etc...but my intention was to ultimately switch to FSW and drop both P3D and XP. So, I hope that MS considers the type of users who may switch a year or 2 later as the product develops. With all of that said, i believe that MS will get a ton of new and convince a good chunk of current users given the reactions that I have seen thus far.

Are you saying that there is a difference between Simmers and non-simmers or gamers?? 😜 LOL just messing with you a little bit. I think it is however true that us P3D nut cases have different needs and goals than non-simmers or gamers. I don't think that the early releases of the new MSFS XXXX with be able to meet those goals but, I will be happy if MS proves me wrong.
