World Traffic 3.2 release imminent!

Featured Replies

Just a heads up here, any day now Greg will release (at first a test version for license owners, which you may become by purchasing the current version) World Traffic 3.2 with a PLETHORA of fixes and improvements, including life-like separation of aircraft on busy approaches such as KLAX with real life traffic density.

Along with the new routes + aircraft installer by the community, real life traffic for X-Plane should become attainable for everyone including inexperienced users. The only "less convenient" feature is that you need to generate or download "Ground Routes" for every airport you want to activate, but given that even most Gateway airports have taxi routes by now (a requirement to generate Ground Routes with WT3), that shouldn't be a barrier anymore, it's a few clicks in the sim after all.

Anyway, what this guy has managed to pull of as a hobby project is mind blowing and I suggest to support this endeavour by becoming a WT3 user - it's finally becoming the traffic add-on the community always wanted. Yes it's been coming for years, a long wait, but 3.2 is a major milestone.

You may follow up on the release by keeping an eye on this thread right here, it's probably the most F5'ed thread in flight sim right now.

Lets see that imminent, he already delayed that release several times. Love WT3 however.

It's a test release according to the comments and not the final release which will have the ATC improvements. Looks promising though. I need a traffic program and will buy if the reviews are good.

ATC improvements will be in 3.3, not this release. ATC is optional anyways.

So you download all these ground routes or you can generate them in the sim?

I don't want to search for and install airports one by one.

Why can't they collect all the user generated ground routes, so new guys can simply download everything at once?

You can do either, generate or download. Generating takes some time (depending on airport size and your hardware maybe up to maybe 30 mins), so downloading is quite convenient. A "batch download" doesn't really work, the tricky part is to match the Ground Routes to your scenery, because each scenery may require a (slightly) different set of Ground Routes. So there is, for example, a set of Ground Routes for X-Plane's KLAX, and one for Mister X's scenery. That of course doesn't matter when you generate yourself - the generator will always use the scenery thats loaded in the sim. Here's the link to all available Ground Routes:

Greg is also working on some sort of download platform, but I think for now we're good. Just get the ones you need or generate them in the sim.

It's been "imminent" for weeks and I've been F5'ing my bum off in the World Traffic forum.

Would love to see a batch ground route generator and auto-initialization at one point. But in its current state, the former means gigabytes of text files due to the amount of data per airport.

Yea agree. I have 67 major airports done for arrivals and departures and it comes to 456MB and actually 1GB on disk and 280K files 🙂  I do like WT3 though and have been using it since version 2.

I would like to generate routes outside the sim. Last time I generated KATL it took 1 1/2 hours in sim so I could not do any flying. i9 9900K@ 5Ghz + nvme m.2 drive not sure what was holding it up, more likely x-plane itself.

I agree we need a generator outside the sim, but for now, my Ground Routes are done.

I just posted the update.  Sorry for the delay, some unexpected bugs, unexpected travel, and unexpected work!

https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/186788-wt-320b4-test-version-for-windows/

Yea, ground routes... it's hard to know what to do exactly.  I'm working on a web site that at least links to all of them in one place.  The problem is many are for custom scenery packages and others just for default scenery so I'm not sure how I could create a zip file with them all without messing up peoples scenery.  Maybe a file that just has files for default scenery?

There is an offline ground route generator.  I'll ask if he can add an option to bulk generate ground routes.

There will be some ATC updates before the official 3.2 release like the follow me truck and then in 3.3 some major updates so I'll be able to start interfacing to 3rd party ATC products.  It also requires use of the new menu system.  Unfortunately this is a huge amount of work.  I thought it would be a simple port but the new XP window system does not support any of the default window widgets so the whole thing has to be re-written from scratch.  Fortunately there are some developers sharing code samples but I haven't worked with GUI code too much so it's kind of all new to me.

Version 3.1.10 improved generation speed somewhat, but for the big hubs, you're better off checking X-Plane.org's library for ready-to-use routes (there's at least one package).

Yeehaw! Finally!

Is there a technical limitation that prevents usage of the default routes in an apt.dat, at least as a fallback option?

I think I've asked the author of the ground route generator about bulk generation before, but his reply was along the lines that it's not a priority item for him.

Is the GUI code for C++ modules like Imgui for Lua scripts?
