Looking at it in GE I see it heavily undulating, corrugated would be even more to the point 😏.  The screenshot does not show too much of that bu I suppose it is here.

Yes it is. But GE elevation sampling is super low res this is why we see the variations.

Yes, that's weird. It's the same in Bing Maps. Could the reason be a discrepancy between Bing Maps and airport elevation data?

I’m 100% sure that this is the correct spot. Just compare the area on the right in Bing Maps/Earth View. It's identical.

In the MSFS screenshot, looking towards the end of the runway, you can clearly see the hill sloping down pretty steep, both to the left and to the right. In the real world shot this isn't present. Also, the platform is much flatter and almost on the same elevation as the runway in the real shot when compared to the slope in the MSFS shot. If the location is correct the mesh in the sim doesn't match with the real world.

Edit; when typing I missed your post above mine. Looks like the right spot then.

GE uses many elevation data depending on the region. the resolution can range from 30m to 90m sometimes as far as I remember. This is why we see the radical changes in the terrain.

or something like the plateau effect in FSX/P3D, the sim reconstructing the mesh to adapt it to the airfield  elevation data. Hmmm...

yep, and it is too sloped at right side compared to reality..most probably a WIP..

M'sobo should use, at worst, the SRTM 1 arc-second elevation  data  available for the entire world

Umm, by experience, a transition between a plateau and sloped terrain is not possible without pulling or sinking the terrain from one side or another of the ruwnay.

But this is the difference between my airport's RWY and GE. My airport is sloped and it does not have the highest terrain mesh resolution out there yet it is way better than GE hence we can't see the slopes.

And here is a screenshot of the whole airport, we think it's flat but I know it is not since I made it 🙂 There is not 1 inch in it that is flat. It follows the land's terrain.

I don't think the Apron is grass. I think they just did not place the concrete/asphalt apron as we saw in their Airport Video Editing demos.

What we see in the screenshot in my opinion is some kind of basic terrain refinement layers like decals that create sharper textures over smudged and average resolution aerial imagery. 3D grass as well.

And then maybe, and I say maybe, the terrain slopes are perhaps refined automatically when a concrete or asphalt layout is created.

It very much looks like the runway is on a rounded plateau, with both sides gently and symmetrically sloping downward.  It is not the FSX/P3D awful cliff around the runway but a softer version  of the solution to the same problem.

Maybe, you are right who knows... Or the resolution vs extra refinement of the terrain transitions produce this roundness. Then the apron comes to make transitions even smaller...

But certainly not an ESP mesh pulling and pushing by flat polygons like ruwnays or aprons.

I love the landscape but that mountain in the background is yet another less encouraging example as far as mesh’s concerned:

pCHTLka.jpg

I really hope that this is an alpha issue and that they can improve this.

GE surprisingly has a good elevation resolution for this mountain actually. Interesting.

But you know, I much prefer this scenario in a terrain we can improve rather than having a terrain that morphs and increases in resolution as we move toward it as it is the case of FSX/ESP.

That was something that used ot get on my nerves in FSX... So let's cross our fingers the mountain you mention won't morph and gets better as we get closer...
