Graphics options request

I believe DCS has 3 system settings, high med and low..work's perfect

There should be Both a Simple Settings page and Advanced for Power users. Not everybody wants to dumb things down so much.

Agreed, Microsoft will make things easier for us. Time has come to enjoy our sim.

Now it is 80% tweak, download, install, update, and 20% fun.

Let's go 95% fun and 5% of tweaking.

Simmers have take the habit to overcontrol every aspect or their sim, it's almost like a drug (and I am one of you). It doesn't have to be like this in the future, really.

Look at DCS.

Less tweak, more fun!

My only graphic options request would be to have the possibility to transfer the processing from our local hardware to the cloud computing if we have good internet and vice versa.

Tweaking is what you get for dealing with over a decade old graphic engine.

This is not the norm in other videogames.

It depends very much on the specific videogame. Many PC gamers like to see a wide range of graphics options; it's what separates us from console gamers.

Many games have a 2-layered approach with basic settings and then a more advanced screen. For example, the recent Total War: Three Kingdoms strategy game has these settings on the initial Graphics settings page:

Quality -- Low-Medium-High-Ultra. These allow a quick selection if you don't want to dive deeper.
Gamma
UI Resolution Scale
Brightness

There is an additional "Advanced" tab at the top of the Graphics screen, with these settings. Most are a choice again of Low-Medium-High-Ultra, with a few like Anti-Aliasing being a choice of modes:

Texture Quality
Shadow Detail
VFX Detail
Unit Detail
Screen Space Reflections
Anti-Aliasing
Texture Filtering
Grass Detail
Terrain Detail
Building Detail
Unit Size
Depth of Field
Post Effects
SSAO
Unlimited Video Memory
Screen Space Shadows
Vignette
Proximity Fading
V-Sync
Sharpening
And of course... Blood Particle Scale, Blood Stain Scale, and Dismemberment on/off. 😄

This amount of user-controlled graphics settings in a "videogame" is not unusual. I've seen similar on other strategy games, first person shooters, and RPGs.

I certainly understand the desire of flight simmers to never have to dig into obscure config file entries as a requirement to get a smooth, enjoyable flight. But the sim can do something similar to TW3K above, with a very simple initial page and then deeper settings on an advanced tab. X-Plane does something similar with a graphics setting page using sliders that adjust a bunch of hidden factors to give the best results, and then you can dive deeper into a config file for more tweaking if you really want to.

That's not tweaking. I was referring indeed to the editing config files and using Nvidia Inspector and such things every time.

In game graphical options are more than welcome and accepted everywhere.

I agree with those of you who want a simple settings interface...followed by an "Advanced" button or similar which would then allow a bunch of more in-depth settings...

I like the 95% fly, 5% tweak thing.  That is how it should be.   The "tweak" part could be available if you want it, but not mandatory for a great experience.  Simple settings like "Low", "Medium", "High" probably should be the norm.   Maybe Microsoft has an even better idea in this regard.  I suspect we are all kind of doctrinaire in our thinking as longtime flight sim people, probably influenced by FS2002, FS2004, FSX etc settings and slider bars.  Maybe someone who isn't one of us...maybe a gamer background, or browser/webapp background...would have a different perspective on this.

Even better would be if the sim would automatically adjust the settings dynamically "on the fly" to always give the best possible graphics in any situation while maintaining a predefined framerate.

There's definitely been games that have allowed you to set a minimum framerate and adjusted quality to provide that rate, and the needs of VR have taken advantage of that set up too.

I think there will be a sort of automated adjustment happening based on available bandwidth, but we'll have to see.

I want to choose where it hurts.

Even a slider for Rodents would be ok 🤣

There will be a silder for Drop Bears if you are flying within Australian territory, but no generalised rodent slider I'm afraid.

There will be a rodent adjustment, but it can only be bound to a ratory switch
