REX WX Advantage Radar and P3D

Featured Replies

Can someone confirm that this addon works with P3D 4.5 cos believe it or not it doesn't seem to say on their website.

Also can anyone confirm that it works well with Active Sky weather engine, giving representative depiction of the current sim weather?

Cheers

It works with 4.5.  With that said, expect a minimum 2-3 month delay in getting a compatible version when P3D updates (minor or major) are released, at least that's been the fairly consistent history so far.

The representation of the depicted weather is fairly reasonable.

It works. But it is a bit "iffy". The weather radar in the PMDG range is better at tracking the weather.

Thanks. Does that include 4.5 Hotfix?

Hi Bob,

Have ActiveSky for P3D and use PMDG's weather radar based on a AS.  If you have used both, which one do you believe provides the more realistic weather radar presentation?

I noticed that AS and PMDG's weather radar can be out of sync, e.g., TRW displayed ahead, but no clouds present or they can be in differing locations (i.e., radar view and out-the-window view).  This could be because of a sync differences between AS, P3D, and PMDG.

I understand that PMDG is planning support for REX's radar.  I'm considering other options.

Thanks!

Those road maps were created before MS announced MSFS2020; I wouldn't count on seeing REX interrogation into PMDG aircraft.  I suspect PMDG will shift focus to the new sim platform...

Anyone know if REX WX Radar is working in ActiveSky 3D ? (beta2)

An initial check shows the REX WX Radar (Tech Update 9 from 16 April 2020) does seem to work with ActiveSky 3D (beta2) in P3Dv4.5 HF3. The WX Radar itself does not work at all in P3Dv5 HF1.

I couldn't get it to work - the old ActiveSky (P4) can co exist on same pc - just use one at a time with P3d - when I use that it injects the weather to Rex WX Radar fine (so maybe the api access needs code changes in Rex WX)

If I load the a/c into KBUF, where the wx is bad, and then start the AS P3D Beta 2 I get lots of returns on the WX radar just sitting on the runway. I no longer have the old ActiveSky (P4) installed.

Thanks Al - working for me too - I must not have actually had any visible weather last time I tried it

(again Im using P3 4.5 HotFix 3 with ASP 3D beta 2 for anyone else with this combo and latest REX WX radar - the installer now includes latest update 9)
