Opinions on new forum structure?

Obviously this is just my personal opinion here but I do not like it at all. Personally I am still fully engrossed in FS9. It is what we are all using today. I liked the FSX forum seperate as I really don't care about FSX on a day to day basis. I will check it once a week to get an update but I scour the FS9 forums daily picking up little tidbits. Now I have to scour through all these fsX posts to find out about what is relevant to me today which is FS9. Oh well, I guess I will get used to it just wanted to see if I was the only one...Cheers everyone and thanks for the great work Tom and team,-PaulPrimary RigLiquid CooledAMD FX-57 @ 3 gigsAsus A8NSLI-Premium2 gigs Corsair XMS PC3500LL 2 3 2 6 1TXFX 7900 GTX 690/1750XFX 7800 GTX 515/135024 inch Widescreen LCDDual 19 inch LCD'sRaid-0+1PCPower and Cooling 1khttp://home.comcast.net/~psolk/3monitorsa.htmlBackup RigAMD 4000 San Diego @ 2.72 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2XFX 7800 GTX 515/1350 Raid-0psolk.jpg

It is really such a terrible strain to scroll past a topic if it says "FSX" in the title?

Paul, I can guarantee you won't be alone in that opinion. :)We're danged if we do, and danged if we don't. If we allowed multiple FS forums, the management time to monitor them, move messages to the correct forum, etc., would be huge - because there is always going to be newbies who don't know any better, or others that just don't care. Consider that we are constantly moving hardware posts to the hardware sub forum, or that when we did have a separate FSX forum, that we were constantly moving threads from here to there. Remember, we don't do this full time, and having that additional management chore is not in the cards.Having one FS forum is not to some folk's taste and they would prefer separate forums for all makes of FS, as in your opinion. We deliberately set up the separate FSX forum during the run up to the release of the BETA, and recinding of the NDA, with the full expectation that we would merge the forums into one, as we always have.I guess the "proof in the pudding" so to speak, as to viability of that approach is the popularity of our MS FS forum. It is the most read and frequented forum in the hobby. I guess that means we're doing the community right by having it this way.

Hi Tom,I was one speaking up for separated forums in another thread. Didn't think about these aspect then, only the default my own selfish POV :-erks.You guys are doing a great job on the forums, and this will level out sooner or later anyway, so I'm fine with a couple of scrolling months now :-).Eagle

As FSX is not released yet, I am of the opinion that the FSX forum section should have remained open until such time.At this point in time, it was much easier to keep track of FSX in a seperate forum. Just my viewpoint.Glenn

"It is really such a terrible strain to scroll past a topic if it says "FSX" in the title?"Not particularly but the same FS9 posts that would have been on one page are now spread out over quite a few pages. It was just much more streamlined prior to the merge and as FSX is not GA yet, I liked the idea of keeping the two seperate. Like I said, it was just my opinion which doesn't usually count for very much anyway ;)Tom, I figured their was a logical answer to my emotional reaction. Thanks so much for everything you and the site do for the community, see you in a couple of weeks :)-PaulPrimary RigLiquid CooledAMD FX-57 @ 3 gigsAsus A8NSLI-Premium2 gigs Corsair XMS PC3500LL 2 3 2 6 1TXFX 7900 GTX 690/1750XFX 7800 GTX 515/135024 inch Widescreen LCDDual 19 inch LCD'sRaid-0+1PCPower and Cooling 1khttp://home.comcast.net/~psolk/3monitorsa.htmlBackup RigAMD 4000 San Diego @ 2.72 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2XFX 7800 GTX 515/1350 Raid-0psolk.jpg

I agree that FSX is an unreleased product and the topics discussed in the frenzy over beta and demo copies may not even be relevant to simmers once they've got the actual release, and those screenshot requests so important one FS user are of absolutely no importance to another, so I'd also say the FSX forum should have remained separate until the product is actually available as a pair of actual release, but I can see the strain this would put on resources, so I guess they'd better sit side by side. But it might ba an idea to have a sticky reminding FS9 users to use the search function before posting because the volume of FSX posts are driving currrent FS9 threads pages further down than in the past.Allcott

I'd prefer to see a forum dedicated to each game myself... I understand that it causes more work for the site. When FSX gets released, there will be tons of posts, and anything fs9 related will get pushed off the front page. The forums always get a little crazy whenever a new version is released, and it takes a long time for things to calm down. I know I'm not alone in sticking with fs9 for awhile. I would think that the volume of posts in an fs9 forum would be pretty managable now..Just my opinion. I understand if it needs to stay this way though.

I do have to agree with those who favor separate forums, at least until the release of the product. It just seems to be the sensical thing to do.Just one man's humble opinion,RobertP IV 3.2 ghz, 1024 DDR ram,Intel D865GBF 800 FSB mobo, 128 mg Radeon 9800 Pro graphic card, 500gb & 160gb Seagate 7200 RPM Ultra ATA 100 hard drives, Win XP Home Edition, 19" ViewSonic E 90f+SB monitor, 450 ATX power supply and Saitek 52 throttle/joystick

I agree also. Putting everything together in one forum is just a mess. I think there is going to be far more interest in FS9 than any other past release and keeping the forums separate just seems to make a lot of sense. For sure, I'm going to be spending more time in those sites that have separate FS9 forums.Doug

We go through this at every release, with a minority demanding that we set up a separate forum for each of those releases. We always respond that in doing so, it diffuses the point of having a general interest forum for FS. Doug, with nearly 1,700 messages posted here, my assumption is that you survived the last release as a member of AVSIM, and will do so again. Why not give it some time, and see how things stabalize?

I like the merge: as the release of FSX nears, I'm eager to learn what kind of hardware it likes.

I agree with the concept of 1 single FS general forum...but I disagree in the timing. This merge was done too soon. RhettAMD 3700+ powered by Gerbil wheel + gerbil, eVGA 7800GT 256, ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 gigs Corsair TWINX, blah blah, etc. etc.

Well, considering that most of us won't be here for the next week or two, the timing was perfect from my perspective. :)

I agree Tom, Fact is that the main forum will become totally FSX as with the past releases, we are very close and many like me are not even using FS9 at present but am more interested in anything FSX related.Best,Randy J. Smith
