September 30, 20196 yr Hi lately I've been plagued with P3dv4.5 HF1, everytime I change a setting either by the P3dv4.5 GUI or by any shader program be it Envtex, REXSF, anything, when I restart p3d the splash screen appears for a bit and then the computer shuts down completely, restarting and all is ok, the updates that were applied recently were Envtex latest update, REXSF update, GSX, that I can think of, event viewer shows nothing, uninstalled graphics driver via DDU, still shuts down, I haven't updated p3d HF2 as yet but all other products have been as I was waiting for P.T.A to be updated and prob will be waiting a while, win10, 32g, am I a lone ranger on this or is anyone else experienced this problem? Or will updating to HF2 help seeing as though everything else has been to be compatible with the HF2. Have no idea what to do next. Regards Rod
September 30, 20196 yr If you really have a BSOD, then I suspect your hardware (settings?). Did you overclock? If yes, go back to default BIOS settings and see what happens. - Harry 9800x3D (Strix x870e-E) - 64GB RAM (DDR5 6000, CL 30) - RTX 5090, 34'' 1440p OLED HDR - Windows 11 Pro (1TB M.2) - MSFS 2024 (MS Store, 4TB M.2).
September 30, 20196 yr Author Hi Nemo, no overclocking at all don't play with things like that, the only other thing that was updated was to the new Orbx Central, if I don't change any settings p3dv4 runs like a charm but as soon as I change a setting bang CTD from the p3d splash screen, for an instant just before shutdown I do see a large white screen full of writing but its impossible to read it before it shutdown. A long time ago people were reporting this screen but no idea what it was and unable to find it by googling I'm stumped. Rod.
September 30, 20196 yr Ah, you're speaking about CTD. That's a different story. I was plagued from this too sometimes, especially when I changed Autogen and Scenery settings via the GUI. There was some discussion that also FTX regions play a role in this kind of CTD. I'm now with HF2 and didn't have a CTD since then. But time is too short to make a conclusion. - Harry 9800x3D (Strix x870e-E) - 64GB RAM (DDR5 6000, CL 30) - RTX 5090, 34'' 1440p OLED HDR - Windows 11 Pro (1TB M.2) - MSFS 2024 (MS Store, 4TB M.2).
September 30, 20196 yr Author Well I'm leaning towards Orbx as I'm pretty sure it started just after I updated to the new Orbx Central, I have posted it on the Orbx forum but they keep telling me it can't be Orbx 🤔, at this point I have no idea what to look for. Regards Rod.
September 30, 20196 yr It may be the additional line "TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=9 or 10" in prepare3d.cfg ? Since I use this line CTDs repeated time after time without any explanation. (Hardware: RTX 2080, only 8GB VRAM, Intel I9-9900KF, 32GB RAM, Windows 10 newest Version with Prepar3D v4.5.13.32097). May be TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP needs more VRAM than 8 GB ?? Regards Peter

Regards Rod This problem is still occurring, its not a CTD, its a complete computer shutdown, only when restarting p3d when there's been a setting change, HF2 has been installed and everything is up to date, there appears to be a white screen show up on the p3d splash screen saying something for a split second just before the computer shutsdown but its impossible to read anything for that instance, once a restart happens of the computer it won't happen again until a setting is changed within p3d or any other addon, this white dialog screen I remember had showed its face quite a while ago for many in the community, googling isn't coming up with anything, stumped. Regards Rod.
October 11, 20196 yr When you start up P3D, the first thing that loads are your two dll.xml's. The dll.xml loads modules installed by developers into your flight simulator. The number one fix for all issues with P3D/FSX is the P3D.cfg. Rename and rebuild. Pages 9-12, AVSIM CTD Guide provides more information. Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! October 11, 20196 yr Author Hi Jim, the P3D.cfg has been rebuilt multible times with no change to this issue, I'll try again, the sim runs very well but I just can't put my finger on why it would shut down the whole computer after making a setting change, changing anything in the P3D GUI, REX, ASP4, Envtex, set's off this problem, it's as if P3D now requires a computer reboot everytime, weird. Regards Rod.
October 12, 20196 yr Hello Rod, I am wondering whether it is a power supply or some other hardware failure. Once rebooted check the Event Viewer: https://blog.pcrisk.com/windows/12891-how-to-fix-kernel-power-error \Robert Hamlich/

I get a bit nervous clicking around in places like that. Regards Rod

As stated in the AVSIM CTD Guide, it can be renamed (there are two of them - one in the same folder as the p3d.cfg - old default, and one in the same folder as the scenery.cfg - new default). So, if you rename the one in the same folder as the scenery.cfg, it will be rebuilt. The other one will not. The dll.xml gets corrupted easily and I use LorbySi's Addon Organizer to repair it occasionally (it also repairs the scenery.cfg and p3d.cfg). Look under the Tools tab and Encoding. When the dll.xml is rebuilt, it is the default. You will then have to reinstall the programs that created the entries in the dll.xml or find the offending entry and just fix that one. I have had my sim fixed several times by updating the fsuipc5.dll and the dll.xml. Again, as stated in the AVSIM CTD Guide, there are three very important files in P3D - P3D.cfg, scenery.cfg, and the dll.xml. Most likely the crash or freeze will occur because of one of these files. October 14, 20196 yr Author Thanks Jim, after a reinstall of the latest Fsuipc module I've not had an issue since, so at this point I'll call it fixed, thanks for your input. Regards Rod
February 24, 20206 yr Author Well the shutting down of my laptop completely is back again, as per my initial post, as I said it all started when I installed Orbx Central, I reverted back to FTXC3 and had no more issues at all, last week I went in again and upgraded to the new version of Orbx Central 4.39 and the problem came straight back again, now this is not a CTD, It's a complete computer shutdown, no error message at all except for one I saw which said P3DV4 has encountered a problem, then the shutdown occurred, without Orbx Central it's fine, any feedback is welcome.
