Most people aren't aware of this but MS/ACES was working on the next iteration of the franchise with the goal of allowing Flight Simulator and Train Simulator to share the same world and engine platform before MS pulled the plug on both projects.

Because their shared graphics engine became a bloated Monolith of legacy code and hacks.  Even with beast computers of today the warts and scars of FS engine are still easily visible they never go away.  And yes there never was a fix for the dreaded blurries.

In the times of early fs5, train simulator and microsoft space simulator, i thought about a merge and how great it would be to take a train, drive a car into an airfield, take my prefered prop and fly to a mission base to get into the rocket that would take me to the outer space....

From "flying on rails" to "flying and rails".

Well that's the scary part about Microsoft, their propensity for abruptly walking away from things with pretty much zero warning: leaving people who purchased in good faith, stranded.

Since its happened to me with a number of their products, i can't help but feel wary.

They can't be as bad as Google.

Just curious with what other software MS has abandoned. They're pretty good about backward compatibility but I know that's a separate issue.

I am hoping that given they're going to have an X-Box version that they will at least fix bugs for a fair amount of time. You essentially had to buy 3rd party software to get DX10 to work with it.

I don't know if it will show up in the game, but there are so many applications for have a virtual planet. I wouldn't be surprised if this is partially a way for MS to test such a virtual planet. The industrial and consumer applications have so much more profit potential.

Well, walking away from Microsoft Flight would be one of the most recent, but you could also add Windows phone and Games for windows live as examples of them leaving users high and dry. The list is pretty extensive, actually.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

In Microsoft FLIGHT, you could actually get out of your plane and freely wander the airports, scenery, etc.

People would land and hop out in multiplayer, then stand around shooting the breeze, since voice coms was part of the sim.

Had some nice conversations, back then......

The greatest fantasy was that we could all have customizable avatars to meet up with.
