INstalling FS9 into Windows 10

Featured Replies

Interesting and informative thread.

Has any of you Win10 users ever tried if FSHotSFX works under Win10? (FSHotSFX - that legendary application that brought realistic and type-individual sound to AI planes.) Stopped working under Win7, so I don't believe it's working again under Win10, but hope dies last... Thanks!

I've successfully used FS9 in my 2 previous laptops, with no major problems at all. Please be aware of the following:

1) Install it anywhere but in C:\Program files or C:\Program files (x86). Windows 10 is overzealous regarding security settings.

2) UAC must be disabled (reduced to its minimum setting), and all installers shall be ran as administrator.

3) Use the No-CD patch. Win10 does not allow the use of CDs for checking if your licence is legit.

4) Optional, but I had to do this in my laptops: run FS9 in windowed mode. If you need to use the full screen, fake it: I mean, there are some addons as Borderless Gaming that allow you to use the whole screen in windowed mode, with no title or task bars.

What is UAC please?

Re-install FS 2004? Why not just wait for MSFT 2020 or go with fsx if you really can't wait. I would recommend go VR with flyinside, aerofly FS 2 and DCS. 🙂

Completely unnecessary dumb post, Mr. "Flybynumbers".

Remember, you are in the FS2004 forum!

FS9 runs good.I did  disable  or reduced it to minimum setting UAC. I did that on everything that i installed relating to FS9.

What about after installation ?. Do you UAC back to normal settings ?. Mine is still set to minimum.

Does this process have to be done for other sims FSX,X-PLANE,P3D

I've always left my UAC settings as disabled/minimum setting for quite a few years now.
