September 17, 200619 yr Hi,This is the latest advertising movie from Microsoft showing off some of the stunning new features in FSX. This movie was released on September 16th, so doubt many have seen this. Certainly worth a look, its one of those that makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck you can find the 2 minute masterpiece at the link below, Enjoy http://www.astraboy.com
September 17, 200619 yr Seen it, so it can't be that new!And the footage from 100,000 ft? Sorry, but anyone who's been keeping up with it knows that it allows for altitudes up to 100 million feet.James
September 17, 200619 yr Well it was new to me Mr and likely to most other people who are probably 'keeping up with it' quite well in a normal sort of a way. And what's all this about 100 million feet!? Are we to expect an add-on spacecraft yet? But seriously, do you have a website or a blog where we can go and get all the inside running before it reaches the common man? Gareth Wilkinson LEAL Costa Blanca, SPAIN

September 17, 200619 yr Its a great promo but as I watch it I realize that FSX offers many new features and improvements but lacking the features I was looking forward too.The idea of getting a new system after Vista, DX10 and prices are reasonable then installing all the addons only to get some better visuals since I wont use some of the new features as much leaves we thinking I might buy FSX down the road but use FS9 as my mainstay.I was really hoping that the ATC would have been one of the main overhauls. I see they are moving more towards a community and online effort which is great but not for me.The only real big thing I was looking forward too, and is whats got me sitting on the fence, is the dialect of different countries. I've read mix reports thats it in there but only in the mission part but then again the products not released so I wont judge if its there or not. To me that would make flying abroad most enjoyable since theres something new to look forward to as I vist new areas of the world. That would really sepearte the same scenery of airports from each other since most of the default airports dont change much.I just watch this video and with the more roads, rivers and mountains and think for the most part my addons take care of that so I'm only missing out on the living world dynamics which are great but not worth the cost and headache for upgrading and tweaking for me.My guess is FSX visuals would make it into the following versions so hopefully down the road ATC gets an overhaul and then would be a must buy for the way I enjoy the sim.
September 17, 200619 yr Theres an A380 in that video, i dont think this is an advertising video. Also it says FS2006, bit maybe i just missed out on all the info about a A380 in FSX.

They aren't, however, flyable.

September 18, 200619 yr Hi,Well the movie clip seems to have caused some differing views from around the community, the only information I can give to everyone is as follows. The clip was released on Google on September 16th, I for one had not seen this movie and it is almost certainly the same for many others. It might be an idea for Microsoft to place these product movies on their site, surely that is the way forward and gives everyone an opportunity to be kept up to date with all that is new in the flight simulation world. Apart from that, my main concern which I am sure is being discussed right now, where do future developments and more importantly developers come into this new era. Have Microsoft taken all they can onboard from what has been created from previous versions and now possibly choked the developer from creating something new and sustainable. From watching the clips and reading posts it seems that just about everything that has been developed over the years in previous versions by 3rd party designers, has now been placed into this new version. With what looks like a stunning new rendition of the world including weather, textures and animated objects. It seems that Microsoft may have squeezed out future developments of add-on products. I imagine the last comment will be dispelled, but the majority of people might find the eye candy on display with FSX all they need, which could cause massive repercussions around the globe for anyone wanting to create new additional scenery for example, be it minor or at a higher level. Flight Simulator has come along way over the years and will continue to grow with fan sites like my own helping to push the community forward. The reason for the success of this product has been interaction between the players, developers and Microsoft which has brought it to where we are today. Lets hope the flight sim community is allowed to grow and continue to work along side Microsoft, in a way that development of the software is still possible, if this fails to happen the game we all love with passion could just end up as another game on the shelf at home.Happy FlyingAstraboyhttp://www.astraboy.com/
September 18, 200619 yr "It seems that Microsoft may have squeezed out future developments of add-on products."I don't think so, Astra. See what Tim Metzinger says about MS intentions here:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...g_id=1572&page=I don't think MS are trying to discourage competition. On the contrary I think they are raising the bar for others to compare the excellence of their own work.Mike. Mike Beckwith
September 18, 200619 yr Hi Mike,I understand what you say and have read the article above. However, it seems to me that many people may be more than happy with what comes in the package, and this may deter people from purchasing other add-ons. With scenery for instance, having looked at the demo and the various film clips the whole experience is something we have never had before. The majority of third party add-ons have been created by individual developers or software companies and the majority of these seem to be included in the new version. It will be very interesting to see what type of development arises over the following 12 months. As an example lets take a look at the roads and rivers, it's not that long ago Just Flight brought out a product giving us Roads and Rivers of Europe, on top of that individual releases for other world areas have been released as freeware. But the new FSX looks to have this covered. The same can be said of other add-ons IE: weather, oceans/water, trees and we now even have moving vehicles on the highway not to mention animals roaming in the safari adventures.I think these are great additional features for Flight Simulator, but am still slightly concerned as to just what can be added by a community, apart from new aircraft. With so much of what we wanted being "The As Real As It Gets" already included. Like I say it will be interesting to follow the developments though!Astraboyhttp://www.astraboy.com
September 18, 200619 yr It's possible that what we've been shown so far, in the videos and the demo, shows some of the higher detail areas of FSX. For example when I saw the video posted on your site I couldn't believe that FSX now has textures to represent four distinct seasons. Wow!But have a look at these screenshots of some lower detail areas from the Beta:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ode=full#347990My point is that there will always be more work for add-on devs to do. It's a big planet and MS, as big as it is, can't cover everything. As for the casual gamer being satisfied with the out of the box product, well that's how I started many years ago, and I confess, I'm a hopeless addict now!Mike.
