Any diehard FS9 Fans out there?

I'm sticking with FS9 for a while yet. I will get FSX eventually, but I will wait for some time before taking the plunge. I want to wait until more addons are released and/or become fully compatible. Honestly I've been playing the demo from time to time, but it didn't impress me on my current PC. I'm sure it will look spectacular on new dx10 hardware, but for now, FS9 gives me the best performance. I'm pretty finicky when it comes to framerates too Buying a new sim usually means dipping down into the low 20s or lower with a ton of addons. That's perfectly fine for some, but I want high 20s or even 30s with addons. I get that now on my current rig with FS9. I bought fs2004 the day it was released, and while I enjoyed it, I never got full use out of it until more addons were released and I had better hardware. Honestly, I have so much invested in FS9, I'm happy where I am for now. I'm sure it will only be a matter of time before I get FSX, but for now count me in for keeping the "legacy" version going :)

Same here.FS9 will be my major FS version for a while, simply because its running great on my current system with all the add-ons and additional software.Having seen that FS9 runs quite a bit slower on Vista (RC1) and FSX will cost additional performance, I don't think that the combo Vista + FSX will do well on my current hardware. I currently do not have any plans to update my system and will wait until all the problems with the upcoming big changes (Vista, DX10, drivers etc.) have settled a bit - a year from now should be a good guess. My next hardware will for sure include a next generation DX10 video card.Under XP, the FSX demo was running quite ok, but that was with default aircrafts and w/o any addons. Now, with the knowledge how much performance a complex addon like a PMDG or LDS aircraft can cost even on FS9, I definatly don't think that FSX + a add-on of this scale will *ever* run at acceptable frame rates on my system.I'am going to purchase and install FSX when it comes out, of course, but FS9 will stay #1 for serious simming for a while.Alex

I will keep FS9 as my main flyer, but i will get FSX also and grow into it like I did with FS9 as I upgrade my computer.

In all fairness FS9 looks pretty dated out-of-the-box compared with FSX, and really it's pretty static and dry. Don't get me wrong, I've greatly enjoyed it, but in all honesty FSX will offer a far more rewarding experience. Why?Well, everyone who's flown the missions say that it really adds to the enjoyment you get out of it. Missions aren't just the fly between pylons affair. There are all kinds of missions that simulate real life situations and conditions, and the flexibility you get out of creating them is almost limitless. Also, although subtle, the wildlife, cars, birds, and ship traffic will dramatically enhance the experience. Reason? Even if you don't spend time staring at it, it will lodge itself into your subconcious and actually create a much more immersive experience.Lastly, FSX out of the box is vastly superiour to FS9 out of the box. Ever flown above trees in FS9 and looked straight down? The trees almost become invisible because they only have vertical textures representing them. In FSX, they also have horizontal textures so are much more voluminous. This dramatically enhances the visual realism. Also, night-day graduations and the sky are far better in FSX than in FS9.Think of the potential for addons in FSX as well. I can assure you in about a year from now you'll be wondering how you ever thought FS9 could compare to FSX.My 2c.James

I'm not sure about buying FSX any time soon. What I plan to do, what I think is best overall, is wait until video cards and MOBOS are available for DX10, build a new computer, THEN buy both Vista and FSX. That way I only have to upgrade once. But, I'll still keep FS9 and all the goodies I've acquired. The only serious question is whether or not I'll be able to wait patiently for 6 or more months before buying FSX.Bob

I'm sure that's been said about every new version of FS. Ya know FS9 isn't the first version...perhaps it is for you and that's great. I've been using FS since it's inception and guess what. Along with FS came the developers with commercial add-ons. I've been buyin add-ons and upgrading PC's for longer than I care to remember. At any rate FS9 has proven to be a great sim....provided you spent money on add-ons to make it great....as it certainly was't great out of the box....and I expect the same of FSX. It's the add-ons..freeware as commercial that keeps the hobby viable and alive. There is only so much that can be done with FS9 due to the code. It's time to move on with the rest of the FS world and make FSX into the "perfect" sim as some have claimed to have done. Keep em coming Microsoft. Craig

Tell us what you think when you've actually used it. Hope you have a great machine to render all those textures. Craig

Sounds like me: I'll wait about 1 year after FSX release, then I'll peruse the forums here to Avsim Forums and see what the REAL "recommended" computer specs should be, buy that new system and put FSX on it.Why?By then the cost of such top line computers will be a bit lower...Freeware and payware offerings will have matured and a library of addons will be nice...FS9 still has some legs in it, and will for at least 2-4 years past FSX release date...But yes, I will upgrade to FSX, if for no other reasons than the improved default terminals, new AI scenery like boats, cars/trucks and ducks......oh and the "missions" are likely gonna be my biggest draw!

Yes. Count me in your team. I seem to have spent so much time on scenery and AI traffic enhancements/updates, that i dont fly enough. I intend to spend more time flying FS9, and FSX can wait.Peter

HiI`m sticking with FS9 and when I do transistion it will most likely be to X-Plane.I`ve made up my mind that flight modeling is much more important to me than roaming herds of sheep/elephants etc.Pete

I was an x-planer for many years, then a "Fly'er" and now have come back to MSFS. I REALLY liked austin's flight models; nothing comes as close. But, for me, simming is more than just the flight models and x-plane's environment outside of the flight models left much to be desired. It seems to be getting better, but x-plane is moving in a different direction than MSFS. Back on topic: I'll get FSX. When? Well, when my wife says I can spend the money on a new computer that's ready for Vista :-) I figure I have at least another year of FS9 to play with given past marital history. Ok, by me. By then all the bugs should have been worked out on both FSX and Vista, and a full markets of add-ons will be waitng for my credit card. Mike

Of course simply because FS9 has been our sim for the last few years. Remember there are those who for various reasons stuck to FS2002 too and still do. Staying with a previous edition does not imply anything more than that particular user's choice and that's ok...Best,Randy J. Smith

I have to agree regarding X-Plane. I have pretty much lost interest in it.
