September 19, 200619 yr >Hi,>>I think the main reason that two large groups of people here>at these forums are not that excited about FSX is that their>major requests for this version were not acted upon. One>group tends to be single player airliner fliers that wanted>improved ATC, better AI, and better airports. The last one is>true (although many here already bought addon airports better>than those in FSX), but the other two appear to be essentially>unchanged. Since eye candy, multiplayer, and other FSX>features tend to be less important to this group, they feel>like there is not much in FSX to get excited about. I tend to>agree with them.>Me too - this is my group. Also, my reaction to the demo was mixed (peeve - water, land colouring for the caribbean is still too... bright). Obviously FSX in all it's visual, animated, wet surfaced glory, especially in time with addons, will blow even a now matured fs9 away, but not yet imho, not from any demo, screenshot or video I've seen.Seems I'll be hanging back on this one till Vista, dx10/dx10 GPUs are all here, stable and running the latest IFR bigirons. Till then I'll continue entering fmc data and staring at the PFD on takeoff, where hires ground textures are of no consequence :)regards,MarkXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1024mb/X700pro256 Regards, Mark
September 19, 200619 yr I think Microsoft screwed up by including the sliders. They might have labeled the settings as "Fall 2006", "Spring 2007", etc. and then maybe everyone would be happy. I personally feel that just the missions are worth the price of admission. I was very unhappy when FS2004 changed the Adventure Language, and it became so complicated to design adventures for FS2004. A few guys figured it out...and gave us a few great adventures (Socal approach for instance).I am also very happy the way they handled being able to save different setting profiles. You can easily switch profiles for a nice VFR experience, with lots of autogen, etc., to a good high-frame rate profile for an IFR flight. I have a very modest computer, and I still am able to get decent results with the demo. And I am happy with the fact that when I build a better machine and can increase the settings, I will have something to see for the money invested. It will be like going from FSX to FSXI without spending anything on software.Yep....definitely will have that October 17 flu bug that is coming up.
September 19, 200619 yr Microsoft gave us a free demo, which gave us all something to do while waiting for the final release. For that we should be extremely grateful.Frame rates are always low when a new flight simulator is released. I have been eagerly awaiting the release since January. The demo for me was just a bonus. If many bugs were found and solved because of the demo, then that can only be a good thing. It means fewer bugs in the final product. You will be buying it.
September 19, 200619 yr Yes I enjoyed the demo too, but just releasing something that is not as efficient as it could have been (to the entire public) wasn't the best idea. Lots of folks are all worried that the full version will perform like the demo....ahhh... which thankfully we know they fixed a lot of stuff (20k bugs hehe) and kudos to MS for doing so! I mean, I guess it wasn't a horrible idea or anything, but you can read all the complaints (and the praises) for the demo. I tweaked my demo (LOL) to where it's beautiful but I have no autogen, but pretty much everything else on, and I like it.Yeah yeah I'll buy it, I have since FS5, but maybe next time they should either make sure the big bugs are worked out (we knew that the naked cars would be fixed lol) or just not release a demo....I don't know....opinions only here.... | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
September 19, 200619 yr Yesterday I bought and installed a Gateway 21 inch widescreen monitor. I run the sim now at the monitor's native resolution which is 1680 by 1050. The sim now looks so crisp and sharp, it's almost scary. Sure, 2d panels stretch a bit, but the vc views are incredible. I never understood what that guy from Active Sky was on about how great-looking his clouds were. Now I know. Put differently, FS9 has just earned itself a new lease on life. ricardo
September 19, 200619 yr My guess is that it was mainly us flight simulation fans that took the trouble and had the interest to download and try out the demo. The

September 19, 200619 yr Good point, I guess I'm in the hardcore group (but there are a lof of them), and I didn't notice that a total n00b wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Spose that was MS's original plan, not that they couldnt tell, but that it might draw in more n00bs to the flight sim genre. Thanks for the point | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

September 19, 200619 yr I have to agree with a number of quotes from above, too many to quote literally but.I have been a PAi person for a long time and have no enemies im glad to say....but being more AI interested, I really dont think FSX has had a jump up from fs9. fs8 had very basic ai that fs9 began to utilise, you could have parallel runways, select your runway for landing and taking off. Not have to have default runwats etc, but seperation and stacking up of ai planes was never achieved.fsx has still (as far as I know) not really solved some of the ai issues we all see at the busy airports. I am guessing that 3rd party developers will be throwing their programming skills in to this for quite some time.In my view this is what ill be doingIll catch fsx and fly fsx for the scenery added realism and missions.ButIll be keeping fs9 for my ai and more realistic ai flying experience until fsx developers catch up. (I sure wish i could program my own stuff and help out but I dont have the brains) I just go about doing my flightplanning. Then, when fsx (ai wise) satisfies me, ill be spending a good few hundred (in fact probably in excess of a thousand) pounds next summer buying a top end rig.....even better, my rig now, will sell then for at least 3-4 hundred quid!!!!So in my eyes....roll on fsx. But steam on the development of fsx ai!!
September 19, 200619 yr Remember there was a lot of hype for fs9 before because it was supposed to come out at the same time of 100 years of flying, hence century of flight. Back then I used to have the WINGS CHANNEL (man I miss that channel) and I would see commercials for MS FS2004 every hour it seemed, trackir too. I built a p4 3.2 I am still running today, i bogged it down with addons, and was never 100% happy with performance, but who is!? Far as I can tell I think I might run FSX as it comes out of the box, atleast get a few of the aftermarket single engine planes I rent in real life. So far from the demo it looks good enough to make me have FSIX and FSX together.http://www.lemosnet.com/misc/gpilotsig.jpg
September 19, 200619 yr Not in the least imho - remember FSX is aimed at a vastly larger audience than us - it will do very very well.Plus, as usual, we the core (just about) all transition eventually anyway - just a matter of when.regards,MarkXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1024mb/X700pro256 Regards, Mark
