Default Airports - so important

Signs, markings, lights, AI cars and humans (and aircraft of course), all kinds of clutter, and all that adequately placed around the airports -  these are the details that create the immersion. And these details probably can't be done just by photogrammetry.

Aircraft is easier to do given that they'll have AI aircraft with real-time schedules ready. We just need an addon to add all the liveries in. Seeing that cars and lights are already present across the world and look good as of now, I'm sure they can integrate cars and lights into airports.

Now where I share the same concerns with you is in terms of signs, markings, and humans. I can only imagine that being implemented differently from the photogrammetry and AI-generated models.

There was a number somewhere which was "huge". Otherwise I don't recall anything. Not sure if Courchevel which they had as a demo in London qualifies as a "default" airport?

Kind regards, Michael

Hi Michael,

I would like Airports to feature after the next episode #4 Cockpits.

Just on the Courchevel point, I got the opportunity to try that landing challenge at XO19 and when I asked David from ASOBO "is this default as the community think its ORBX" he said its 100% default!

Exciting times but would love to know more definitely.

Blessings

That would be great indeed. But let's wait and see.

Wow, thanks for the info Duncan, that would be indeed great.

Kind regards, Michael

Not to get too enthusiastic too soon, that might also just mean that they did it in house as opposed to be done by Orbx, but not necessarily mean that all airports will have these details.

Depends on what exactly has been said and understood by the Asobo guy.

MS has always had the data to place buildings in generally realistic spots on airports. The problem with FSX was they were horribly low resolution, dumpster fire textured blocks for the most part. There's no reason at all they can't have a library of highly detailed "generic" 3D hangers, FBOs, etc. to place on smaller airports with that data.

The one concern I have is that Microsoft will hold back their own development out of respect for all the addon scenery developers.  They've got us all gasping as to how good everything looks up to this point, and for some reason I feel I'm going to be disappointed when I see what default airports look like.  Microsoft, please provide really exciting airfields that make us want to explore the whole world, then let the addon developers follow-up with enhancements to something fabulous.

They can't possible customize 48,000 airports. Payware is still going to be necessary for those that want super-realistic airports (outside of the showcase airports).

I agree 100% but it would be nice to see what is coming out of the box you know?
