Looking for a B727

Featured Replies

Good afternoon,

I’m looking for a Boeing 727 for P3Dv4. I know captain sim has three variants of the 727, but they’re only compatible with v3. Are there any free or payware versions available? The other option is to take an AI version that works in v4 and make it flyable. Though I have no idea how to do that or if it’s even possible.

Thanks,

colin

I don’t believe there is a P3Dv4 version available.  Your options are CaptainSim in earlier sims as you’ve noted, or the FlyJsim version for X-Plane (which is really really good).

rowcoach - yes the Tom Ruth B727 (TR 727) originally for FSX works nicely in P3DV4-5 onwards. The megapack referenced by Bugg Smasher is the Tom Ruth B727. You get the 100,200 and 200 ADV models.  There is also a TDK version about but with limited liveries and it uses the TR VC aliased so you might as well go the TR727.

There are a couple of mods about that are needed. One is to fix some issues with misreading engine guages. There are also some mods because the 200 series offers both INS and FMC setups. There is also a nice FSSpotlights ini available to tidy up the cockpit lighting. There is an additional mod for the 200 ADV model which fixes some guage issues, gives you a new sound pack for the engines and has a modified FDE - they are all worth while looking at too.

The TR 272 is externally as good as Captains Sims the VC nearly so but not quite as in depth as the old CS 727 (One of my all time favourite tubes).

Here are a couple of screens from my setup P3DV5.3:

The VC (100 series) 200 is about the same. One day I will get around to tidying up an improving the textures. But overall a very credible and enjoyable old girl even in P3D. There are also a heap of paints for the TR models so you should have no trouble finding the paint of your choice. These TAA ones by the way are not available I did them for myself as I wanted the older TAA paints.

Here a couple of shots of the VC for info. They are about 86% functional and but do rely on some pop up for the FE position etc but they are fine. Not study level but not bad. Oh yes and the V1 Take Off and Data Card mods can also be shoe horned into the TR 727 and work fine as well.

No chance on the 707 alas. The both CS and HJG's are 32 bit and incompatible with P3DV4 on. There was a rather rough KC135 floating about that had a VC and worked could have been a candidate for a serious makeover to turn it into a civil 707, well sort of, but it was so basic lets say crude you could do nothing with it. I put that in the same basket as the Convair 880/990 alas not going to happen - have heard of nobody who has one and CS have shown absolutely no interest in converting the CS 707 from 32 bit to 64 bit.

I could get the C707 to show up ok in P3DV5 but no working guages and it was missing some critical animations (also run by 32 bit code alas). Might have been able to do a work over with the guages (replace them) but the animation issue made it a non starter - have not given up completely but no time or interest to do any more!

Apologies for the thread necro'ing.

Where can I find/what do I need to search for, for the required mods listed above for the TR 727?

Jason, try these files in the Avsim Library. I found this in another post concerning the TR727:

tom72fix.zip by Ruth himself, then
722FDEGAUGES.zip
B722-2.zip
tom7271.zip (this does the 100 and 200)

Lets us now how you get on because I would be interested to know if this works for v4, then there's a fair chance it would work in v5 also!

Regards,
