How would you feel about ATC with voice recognition?

Though button control has fewer options then voice it's much more intuitive and you can be certain what you want to happen is happening making FO an assistant rather than you serving it.

You know, it' s interesting to hear you say that.  I've never tried button control (I'm too influenced by all the "voice is better" commentary) but I've always found voice control really daunting.  Between learning the flows and learning the scripts, it feels to me like another big task to manage, and that's only compounded if you switch among different aircraft. I should really give button a try.  And to the main point - I'd want to have a menu-driven system as an option even if voice-controlled ATC becomes a feature at some point.

For those who enjoy voice ATC..... you can do that with Native ATC, Radar Contact or PF3 ATC right now.

Unless they remove ATC from upcoming MSFS 2020, should be doable there as well, and most importantly, without running speech engine inside the simulator process.

I think it would be cool if they used some of the technology MS has in house with Cortana and applied it to the ATC in the sim so that you could speak with the ATC in a natural voice and have it understand you.

I like VATSIM and IVAO but you usually have to fly at peak times to get decent ATC coverage so it would be great if the ATC on top of having support for SID/STAR/holding patterns etc. supported voice recognition.

you mean like VoxATC already does? 😉

Nothing wrong with asking for (optional) voice recognition but please let's have an ATC that reflects the ATC present in the major flight simulation locations rather just US centric first. Voice recognition and location specific ATC accents can come in later versions.

I'm sure that Asobo would be quite willing to resist a US centric approach, given where they're from.  Can we have a proportion of French controllers insisting on speaking in French rather than English for maximum authenticity please? 😛

Being able to pick the ATC language would be fantastic.

My MSFS 2020 repaints: Flightsim.to - Profile of HStreet

Working on MSFS 2024 versions.

Google have just released a real time voice activated translation system for something like 35 languages. Surely the tech is there for ATC in real time!.

To be fair Asobo have done so well so far they know we so desperately want a good atc system with sids and stars it can be possible but needs to be worked out. I hope maybe a good 3rd party company can try... But at least by default we have something!.

supported voice recognition.

i'm guessing you mean TTS generated controller / ai crew / copilot comms, no phonetics etc. & no (missing) sound files.

but then they'lll need a much better AI engine to control / use holdings / downwind ops & avoid closed runways.

very much a clone of voxatc you might say.

for now, cheers

I've been out of the Flight Sim game for a very long time so I had not heard of Voxatc until now it does sound like (excuse the pun) what I'm describing.

voxatc user guide  ..... a tad out of date & a tad brief but should give one a feel to the "cloners".

We already have that for years. I have no problem at all talking to PF3-ATC via Multi Crew Experience, with a recognition rate of 95+ %, talking naturally as non-native english speaker.

Thanks for that, i'll give them a try. I'm the opposite of many (judging by the comments) in that I would MUCH prefer 100% voice control rather than menus.
